Who are we?
We're Ken Williams and Denis Fitzpatrick, a writer/director/producer/tea-making team from Cork. We're based in Dublin and London.
The Break is our fourth short film, after Car Film with Jack Reynor, The Daisy Chain with Fiona Shaw and The Last Dart with Fionn Walton.
It's our biggest project to date but at its heart it's a simple story about a family and a beach and dealing with the economic crash.
We have a fantastic cast and crew involved and are all set to shoot in April all we have to do is pay the bills. Hopefully, you can help.
What's the big idea?
Since 2008 the recession/downturn/crash has been the biggest story in Ireland. Nobody has gone untouched by the catastrophic collapse of house prices, the banking system and the Celtic Tiger feelgood factor.
The Break is a story about how Tim, a father of two, tried to cope for the first few months after everything went tits up.
Where the money is going:
We have a seriously good cast. Ronan Leahy, Emmet Kirwan, Barry Keoghan, Aoibhéann McCann, Jon Kenny are all signed on and we have a few more up our sleeve too. Everyone is doing it for next to nothing but we'd like to buy them decent coffee and maybe some chocolate hobnobs.
We have an awesome DOP, Ian D. Murphy of Pilgrim Hill, and we want him and his crew to have everything they need.
We have amazing original music from the award-winning composer, Chris O'Shaughnessy, and the brilliant singer-songwriter, James Humston.
We're shooting in a very beautiful place and we want to show it in all its glory.
Shooting on a beach means we have to pay THE MAN.
