THE CURE

THE CURE is a short political thriller, set in the context of South Africa, about the politics of poverty, HIV and AIDS, and big-brand pharmaceutical companies versus generic drug manufacturers.
An obscure young scientist formulates the most advanced antiretroviral therapy drug – a cure for HIV and AIDS. A life-saving miracle for millions of people. Except that this miracle threatens the profits of a major drug company. Then the cure goes missing...
We want to turn THE CURE into a feature film in the not-so-distant future. For that we need significant financial support. Our plan is to pique investors’ interest by shooting a shorter version of our feature film, with recognizable talent on board, on an iPhone.
We believe shooting our short film on the iPhone starring Oscar®-winning talent will be a compelling project - a first of its kind in South Africa.
The success of this project will help us "democratize" independent filmmaking. We want to show filmmakers and artists that there's nothing holding you back from broadcasting your unique voice to the world.
THE TEAM
KATEY CARSON, Director
Katey Carson was one of eight filmmakers from around the world to have her film The Washing Up screened at this year's Sundance Film Festival, after winning a pitching session via Google Plus with the Ghetto Film School of Los Angeles. She is currently working on several projects as one of South Africa’s foremost young directors.
ERROL SCHWARTZ, Producer
Errol Schwartz is an actor and filmmaker. He is best known for his role in the award-winning mini-series, Riemvasmaak, which received a “Best Actor” nomination at the South African Film and Television Awards. He served as juror at the 2012 Cape Winelands Film Festival and at the University of Cape Town's Centre for Film and Media Studies' short film competition, Shotties.
Our Goal is to raise US$35,000.
This will allow us to:

- Arrange Food, Travel, and Accommodation
- Rent Film Equipment and Locations
- Enter our film into film festivals
- Pitch our short film to investors
AN IMPORANT STORY TO TELL…
THE CURE addresses some of the most critical issues of our time: poverty, access to medicines, and the politics of patents. For big brand pharmaceutical companies, it is more profitable to keep people infected and relying on expensive treatments. But what if there was a cure? The film raises important questions on contemporary global issues.

THE CURE aims democratize independent filmmaking by using crowd-funded resources and available equipment – the iPhone. The production team hopes to show the struggling filmmaker and artist that they CAN broadcast their voice all over the world. The means to do it isn't out of reach - it's in their pockets!
