I have been a student of film my entire life. I studied film at the University of Texas at Austin which is where I first met up with the Dicks. This group changed my life as I knew it and set me on a mission to fuck shit up and question the system. Their music provided a soundtrack for my own militancy and that of a whole lot of other people. The Dicks defined Texas hardcore punk rock and their music is timeless and legendary.

I began shooting 'The Dicks From Texas' when I was working at Monaco Labs in San Francisco. Musicians who used to demand the Dicks open for them when they traveled to Texas and played with them in San Francisco are a part of this film. Henry Rollins of Black Flag, Mike Watt of the Minutemen, David Yow of Jesus Lizard and Ian MacKaye of Fugazi are a few of the great hardcore artists who love the Dicks and talk about the impact the Dicks had on their lives and music.

The heart of this story is told by the Dicks best friends who've remained close for over thirty years. These friends all wandered to Austin, Texas looking for something. Back in those days, Austin was a different animal than the world-class music stratosphere it's known as today. You might run into Patti Smith or Devo after one of their tour shows who wandered into Raul's Club down on Guadalupe where the Dicks were the house band.

It was a wild and incredible time and the Dicks' songs have stood the test of time. They're as raw and spicy and weirdly catchy as they were back in 1980 when 'Dicks Hate the Police' became a top forty hit for the legions of other misfits and lovers of pure-ass hardcore.

'The Dicks From Texas' has been a long ongoing project. It's completely shot and has been through three versions of Final Cut Pro and four hard drives. Longtime Dicks fan and hardcore editor Lonnie Layman is committed to cutting a rough cut so this story can finally be told and put a picture with the songs.

With this funding, we will be able to upgrade our equipment and software along with entry fees for festivals and production submission costs. I've financed this entire film by myself with day job pay and have shot some pretty decent footage. I need your help to diaper this baby and finally finish 'The Dicks From Texas.'
