Hello
My name is Stephan Mathieu, I live as an independend full-time musician since 1989. I'm based in Saarbrücken, Germany and perform my music live worldwide. So far over 30 albums of my music were released internationally by some of the finest labels operating in the fields of electroacoustics, contemporary electronics and abstract digitalia.
What I do
The soundtrack for the video above is a remix I made in 2000 for the band Yo La Tengo, a little later Wired Magazine named me “one of the most important laptop musicians of our time.”
While I always wondered what a laptop musician might be (Are there ‘guitar musicians’? ‘Piano musicians’?), the computer remained a crucial tool for my work until today, when most of my music is created with acoustic instruments and obsolete media, such as mechanical-acoustic gramophones.
I'm using a laptop as a recording studio and musical instrument, as a research tool and as a home office to run my small business. I survive by living a modest life dedicated to my music. Most of my instruments are cheap, second hand finds, my studio consists of the laptop, an audio interface and a pair of (vintage, rather amazing) monitors. Nothing special really, I like to work on a low scale and to create with the tools I can afford.

What happened?
Although I had a great year 2012 with an output of several well received releases, surviving based on what I'm doing became yet a little more difficult. Some days ago, during rehearsals for a show in Lisbon, what I consider one of my professional worst-case scenarios has happened when my laptop was damaged beyond repair.
What now?
Since I can't afford buying a new computer for the time being, I'm asking for your support with this campaign.
I want to buy an Apple Macbook Pro 13" ‘medium’ entry level model for €1549. Possible fees going to Indiegogo are included in the goal of €1665.
What's the deal?
I'm offering you an exclusive digital album of new material named The Falling Rocket in return, as well as a range of digital bundles.
THE FALLING ROCKET
was recorded with a Farfisa VIP 233 organ and shortwave radio between Summer 2011 and now and will be completed and mastered in the next couple of days.
The album has a duration of 80 minutes and will be exclusively available as 24Bit FLAC download, unless you wish to receive it in any other digital format. The download includes a PDF booklet created by Caro Mikalef for Studio Cabina, Buenos Aires.
People who have liked my Radioland or A Static Place albums will most likely also enjoy this new work. I will forward you a download code for The Falling Rocket the day after this campaign ends, on March 01, 2013.
What else?
Apart from The Falling Rocket album, there are a couple of other options, all of them based on digital purchases of my music at a reduced price than offered in my shop which is located at www.schwebung.limitedrun.com
The 50€ option includes ten full resolution digital albums, while four of them – Radioland, The Sad Mac, Full Swing Edits and FrequencyLib – are made available for the first time as 24Bit files and stay exclusive for this bundle option for the time being. It also includes a signed and numbered 15*20 cm professional photo print of Caro Mikalef's artwork for The Falling Rocket.
If you want to support my work by choosing one of the bundled options, I can send you a download link for the Digital Editions you are choosing from my shop within 24 hours.
