An endurance horror that puts the viewer in front of the limits of his own will.
A gardener remains stuck under the gate of a garden in an isolated house among the fields. In the following days he will try to survive hunger, thirst and nature, trying his courage in order to save himself and will face presences and the internal demons that will haunt him.
But maybe everything is not how it seems.

Suspended between a dreamlike atmosphere and hallucination, with references to some of the classics like Misery and Open Water, the movie chooses to develop towards a more intimate kind of horror, the psychological one of Buried and 127 Hours. The one where the monsters inside our minds re-emerge in a ferocious way and turn even the most idyllic setting into a disturbing and dangerous one.
With The Gate, in a crescendo marked by the rhythm of anxiety and tension, we will discover the worst way to deal with ourselves.
Past and present overlap themselves in a journey into fear where good and evil pass the border of reason.
When the light goes out reality or actions don’t matter much, except for knowledge, which for Peter will be of anguish and oppression.
A skillful joint of point of view and upright shots purposely made to show the “crushing” of the main character at its best, a lot of suspense and disturbing moments, a crescendo of uneasiness that goes beyond hardship and looks straight into your face. The direction will be largely focused on the point of view of the main character who’s paralyzed under a gate.
There will be recurring subjective camera shots, often nervous, to underline anxiety and a sense of danger, almost like in a survival horror videogame. The subjective camera shots will let the viewer identify completely, through the eyes and feelings of the main character, and above all they will be the perfect visual solution to instill, in those who are watching, a sense of confusion of narrative levels that the very main character will have to live, in an unavoidable crescendo culminating into the unexpected ending.
The visual style will be symmetrical, almost kubrickian, with the subjects of the scene at the center of the shot and frontal approaches of different speeds, depending on the case, made with the mere purpose of communicating uneasiness, alienation and a morbid and disturbing general atmosphere.

What distinguishes The Gate from the other horror productions is definitely its creation and the all Italian passion we put in the project. The movie, filmed mainly through subjective camera shots will create a realistic point of view that throws the viewer inside of the story in a scarily real way.
The unusual setting, the main character and his own fears dominating the scene, will become the final expression of a professional team who will grant the excellent achievement of the work thanks to the experience and passion that they’re already putting into this project.

Vincenzo Ricchiuto: born in 1975, he graduates at DAMS where he studies screenwriting and direction with professors from Columbia University and Abel Ferrara, then in the USA at the Atlantic Center for the Arts, in Florida.
He’s the director of various short movies and music videos, he’s also a satirist for the website spinoza.it. He’s the creator of music videos for international artists such as Robbie Williams and The Flaming Lips. He has also worked as author of tv formats for the ABC channel. Keen on genre cinema, his short movies range from noir (Radial), to thriller-horror (Chrysalis Hotel), to black comedy (5 Presents you should never ask Santa for). His works have been awarded at several short film and music video festivals and got visibility on MTV, Deejay TV, Rock TV, RAI5.
The Gate is his debut film.

Francesco Collinelli: graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, he’s employed as light designer for ten years. He simultaneously develops a passion for photography and gets to the role of director of photography for the school of cinema in Milan. He decides to permanently dedicate himself to photography for cinema, co-working with independent directors for commercial and cinematographic products. He directs the photography of several short movies since 2005, then in 2010 comes the first independent movie produced by Minerva Roma and in 2011 a second movie produced by Manetti Bros. Through the years he specializes as director of photography for indie videoclips and commercial ads. His collaborations feature Club Dogo, Ministri, Emma Marrone and The Voice.

Pharos Film Company is born in 2015 from the twenty-year experience of Leonardo Angelini and Domenico Magno. The Company aims to the creation of quality products in every field of the audiovisual production.
1111 Film is a cinematographic production company born in Milan in 2015 from the partnership of four professionals in the audiovisual field whose aim is to go back “making cinema” in the city where Italian cinema was born. By putting together four different visions, the company aims for experimentation and a rediscovery of genre narration of international breath.

The Gate: cosa fai quando non puoi più sfuggire alla paura?
Un horror di resistenza, che mette lo spettatore di fronte ai limiti della sua volontà.
Un giardiniere resta bloccato sotto il cancello di un giardino in una villa isolata tra i campi. Nei giorni successivi cercherà di sopravvivere alla fame, alla sete e alla natura, metterà alla prova il suo coraggio per salvarsi e affronterà presenze e demoni interiori che lo assaliranno. Ma forse non tutto è come sembra.
The Gate: cosa c’è di più terribile che la consapevolezza di non farcela, di non poter sfuggire al proprio destino?
Sospeso in un’atmosfera tra l’onirico e l’allucinato, con richiami a classici come “Misery non deve morire” e “Open Water”, il film sceglie di evolversi verso il lato più intimo dell’horror, quello psicologico di “Buried” e di “127 ore”, quello in cui i mostri nella nostra mente riemergono feroci e rendono inquietante e pericoloso anche il più idilliaco degli ambienti.
Con "The Gate", in un crescendo cadenzato di ansia e tensione, scopriremo il modo peggiore di fare i conti con noi stessi. Passato e presente si sovrappongono in un tour nella paura dove bene e male sorpassano il confine della ragione.
Quando la luce si spegne non contano tanto la realtà o i fatti, ma l’esperienza, che per Peter sarà quella dell’angoscia e dell’oppressione. Un incastro sapiente di inquadrature soggettive e perpendicolari al suolo, per rendere al meglio lo ‘schiacciamento’ del protagonista, molta suspense e momenti disturbanti, un crescendo di affanno che va oltre il disagio e che vi guarda dritto in faccia.
La regia sarà incentrata principalmente sul punto di vista del protagonista, immobilizzato sotto un cancello. Frequenti saranno le soggettive, spesso nervose, per sottolineare l’ansia e il senso di pericolo, quasi come in un videogame survival horror: le soggettive permetteranno allo spettatore di identificarsi in maniera totale con gli occhi e le sensazioni vissute dal protagonista, e soprattutto saranno la soluzione visiva perfetta per indurre in chi guarda quel senso di confusione di piani narrativi che lo stesso protagonista si troverà costretto a vivere, in un crescendo inesorabile che culminerà nell’inaspettato finale.
Lo stile visivo sarà simmetrico, quasi kubrickiano, con i soggetti della scena al centro dell’inquadratura, e avvicinamenti frontali di varie velocità, a seconda del momento, con l’unico scopo di comunicare inquietudine, straniamento e un’atmosfera generale morbosa e disturbante.
The Gate, Perché noi?
Quello che distingue "The Gate" dalle altre produzioni horror è sicuramente la realizzazione e la passione tutta italiana che abbiamo messo nel progetto: girato principalmente in soggettiva, crea un punto di vista realistico che proietta lo spettatore nella storia in maniera spaventosamente reale.
L’ambientazione insolita, il protagonista e le sue paure che dominano la scena, saranno l’espressione finale di un team di professionisti che garantiranno l’ottima riuscita dell’opera grazie all’esperienza e alla passione che già stanno mettendo in questo progetto.

Behind the Gate
Vincenzo Ricchiuto: nasce nel 1975, si laurea al DAMS e studia sceneggiatura e regia con docenti della Columbia University e con Abel Ferrara, e negli USA presso l’Atlantic Center for the Arts, in Florida. E’ regista e sceneggiatore di numerosi cortometraggi e video musicali, inoltre è autore satirico presso Spinoza.it. E’ creatore di video musicali per artisti internazionali come Robbie Williams e The Flaming Lips. Ha inoltre lavorato come autore di format tv per ABC channel. Appassionato di cinema di genere, i suoi cortometraggi spaziano dal noir (Redial) al thriller-horror (Chrysalis Hotel), alla black comedy (I 5 regali da non chiedere mai a Babbo Natale). I suoi lavori sono stati premiati in vari festival dedicati al cortometraggio e al video musicale e hanno avuto visibilità su Mtv, DeeJay Tv, Rocktv, Rai5. The Gate è la sua opera prima.
Francesco Collinelli: laureato all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, esercita il ruolo di lightdesign per dieci anni. Parallelamente sviluppa la passione per la fotografia e arriva alla direzione della fotografia per la Scuola del Cinema di Milano. Decide di dedicarsi definitivamente alla fotografia per il cinema collaborando con registi indipendenti per prodotti commerciali e cinematografici. Cura la fotografia di diversi corti dal 2005, nel 2010 il primo film indipendente prodotto da Minerva Roma e nel 2011 un secondo film prodotto da Manetti bros. Negli anni si specializza come direttore della fotografia per videoclip per note case di produzione come Universal. Accanto alla sua esperienza come colorist e post produzione 2d, dal 2009 si dedica alla regia di videoclips indie e spot. Tra le collaborazioni Club Dogo, Ministri, Emma Marrone, The Voice.
La Pharos Film Company nasce nel 2015 dall’esperienze ventennale di Leonardo Angelini e Domenico Magno. La società si pone come obiettivo la realizzazione di prodotti di qualità in tutti i settori della produzione audiovisiva.
La 1111 FILM è una casa di produzione cinematografica nata a Milano nel 2015 dall’unione di 4 professionisti dell’audiovisivo, con lo scopo manifesto di ritornare a “fare cinema” nella città dove il Cinema Italiano è nato. Mettendo insieme quattro differenti visioni, punta alla sperimentazione e alla riscoperta della narrazione di genere con un respiro internazionale.
