The Lowdown
We need your help. Our home, Steubenville Ohio, is suffering from economic and cultural depression. We can change this.
The Harmonium Project aims to be a source of revitalization in two ways:
1. We will turn the ballroom of this historic building in the heart of downtown Steubenville...

...into a music venue, and work to create a thriving "music scene" in our city.

Bringing incredible musicians will bring people with spending money -- especially college kids from the nearby universities -- into the impoverished downtown. By introducing this new, young market, we will inspire business leaders to invest in the downtown area, creating new businesses, new jobs -- and ultimately a flourishing "college town."
2. We will turn the second floor apartments of our building into an after-school music center for at-risk youth. Through your help, we will provide free music lessons, instruments, band rooms and performance opportunities to kids who otherwise may never be able to afford them. By giving kids a safe, creative environment off the streets, and by inspiring them with a love for artistic creation, we hope to cut short cycles of gang activity, drug use and violence.
Your generous donation will help better lives, improve a city, and build a culture centered in the arts.
What We Need
We need 250,000. Our needs are ordered as follows:
We need it to continue renovating our building, and ultimately to purchase it at a price of 100,000 dollars.
We need it to purchase speakers, monitors, subwoofers, a soundboard, lights -- everything necessary to begin functioning as a music venue.
We need it for licensing fees -- we aim to become a certified child-care provider.
Already, many Franciscan University students have donated used instruments. For those instruments that we still need, however, we need your donation.
Already, many students have volunteered their time and talent to serve as music teachers. For those lessons we cannot cover via volunteers, however, we need your donation, so that we can subsidize lessons from local music teachers.
We need it to have some initial capital to begin booking and hosting incredible musicians in downtown Steubenville, to begin the work of creating a thriving music scene.
Any money we do not use for these purposes will be used to facilitate the "snowball effect" The Harmonium Project intends to have in downtown Steubenville: We will contribute to businesses and organizations "opening up shop" in the downtown area.
What You Get
A chance to change the world. Also, some really sweet perks, listed on the right.
