Exactly one year ago, I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder. For years I have been dealing with this illness, and had no idea. I never considered the idea of therapy, and it cost me. It cost me friendships, relationships, and opportunities. All around me, I see others like me. Others who show the same signs of turmoil and internal agony that plagued my life. I also see the people who shame them into avoiding the fact that they have a VERY TREATABLE ILLNESS.

I know I can't fix this problem alone, but with your help we can definitely help many others to know that they don't have to suffer in silence and they can be helped. I have crafted the message. I need your help to spread it.

One amazing aspect of entertainment, is the power to help others overcome their personal struggles, by sharing the struggles of another. In my new show "Wendell Tucker Hates the World", I share my struggles, insights and weaknesses to be that example. The message is a simple one: Depression is not a White thing, or a Woman thing, or a show of weakness. It is an illness, it can be treated, and it can be overcome. 

My goal is to raise $25,000 for a National Tour of "Wendell Tucker Hates the World" and to film the accompanying DVD "The Face of Depression". We want to encourage others to share their story, and help bring to light how people from different backgrounds took control of their life. 

To show my dedication to this very important endeavor, I am embarking on a 40 day fast beginning midnight, July 29, 2012 and ending midnight September 7, 2012. For these 40 days I will abstain from all solid and processed food, living only on water and 1 8oz glass of juice per day. My hope is to inspire others to sacrifice for the betterment of our communities, through my own sacrifice. I will be posting daily updates of my progress and my experiences during this time. I sincerely hope you will join the cause and help me shine a light on MDD.
