'I am you'

An exhibition, created to show that external differences are never a reason for violence. Ever.

I was inspired by the much discussed Trayvon Martin case, or better said; it's influence on my daily life for the past couple of months, to create a project.
Everywhere, anywhere, people were talking about it and what seemed to be the most discussed on this subject, was the late boy's skin color.

This, kept my mind busy and boggling.
How is it possible, that in 2013, the fastest-growing group of young people is multi-racial youth and a boy's skin color can still be thought to be the reason behind his death?

This is not only a question I ask myself.
Most people I talk to, whether they're black/white/Hispanic/Asian or all other differences besides the color of their skin, seem to be asking themselves the same question: "When will race no longer be a topic on it's own?"
All this in inspired me to do an anti-discriminatory project.

So, I'm picking up my camera. To give people a voice.
17 people will tell their story. Through their words, but more so, through their faces.

The message in each one of the portraits, is that we should focus on the people that are alive and struggling with discrimination. Whether due to skin color, physique or sexual orientation. Just so maybe, people will talk about that for 4 months, slowly getting past the issue and make people see we're initially all the same.

All will be shot on film. Real and raw. This, makes it a more appealing, but less affordable project. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
I will personally spend hours in a darkroom, developing and printing and will put my blood, sweat and most probably some tears into it.

But I need you, to help me fund it, so we can all together make a difference.
One photo at a time.

What do I need to realize this and what will the money be used for?

- The purchase of film
- Development
- Scanning
- Printing of the selected 17 images
- Matting and framing
- Studio rental
- Lighting
- Promotion
- To get the models shot, they need to be transported and fed ;)

This all, would cost much more than I'm trying to raise, but I am fortunate enough to have gathered some people who are willing to help in the form of discounts and sponsorships.

What's done already:

- The 17 people to model are recruited
- The location and date for the exhibition are set
- The press is informed and interested
- People have already shown their interest in further development of the project
- The website is up

With your contribution, I can realize this project and give many people a smile on their face and peace in their mind.

Everything will be community based.
Shot and shown in Brooklyn, NY.
Where all differences fade, if you have the capacity to not see one in the first place.

Thank you all in advance, for the help and support.
