Nancy Brooks grew up listening to stories of amazing creatures from her mother's homeland of El Salvador. While she enjoyed the supernatural 'true' stories of witches and goblins, the only thing anyone else outside the Salvadoran community knew about was the Civil War that raged through that country during the 80's. She decided to use her writing to get at least one of these stories out there - El Cipitillo, a mischievous goblin. After she self-published The Isle of Cipit, (which won an award for Best Action-Adventure) she was pleased to find it had drawn interest to other legends. That began her quest to bring back legends that were slowly being forgotten.
Nancy has self-published five action-adventure/occult/supernatural romance novels based upon legends from El Salvador, the Amazon, France, the Middle East, and the United States. She’s currently working with several other legends from around the world, with her main goal being to rekindle interest in ancestral stories and history. She travels cross-country every year to find new tales, meet new people, and gather
information for new locations on which to center her stories. Everything in her
books is based upon research, and the legends can be further investigated by
interested readers. She has also begun a lecture series based on the legends
featured in her books.
Understanding that reading is not everybody’s cup of tea, one of her dreams is to expand into other mediums in order to reach more people. She has partnered with Shane Burke to produce The Isle of Cipit in graphic novel form. Shane is a graphic designer, illustrator, and artist with several years of experience working with the entertainment industry, private collectors, and children’s books. Comic book art was Shane's first true love, and he is eager to get started on the action-packed The Isle of Cipit.
While both Nancy and Shane are passionate about this project, the time and effort needed to produce this comic book will decrease other projects Shane will be able to take on. Concentrating on other fund raising projects will also decrease Nancy's efforts to teach the value of ancestral legends and slow the publication of her sequels. Both author and artist are willing to give back with their original works for any donations given. Shane has offered original art, and Nancy is ready to include donators into her stories - both are priceless considering art and the written word can last for centuries.
They are currently requesting $3000, but any additional funds will be used towards graphic novels based on the sequels. Any promotional efforts will be appreciated.
