Our Story
Killer Vegan's seed was planted 15 years ago when founder/owner Janelle Elizabeth Soto thought it would be great to have a place that her and fellow activists could hang and work out of...and there was also to be a half-pipe out back. :)
This was a time when vegan eateries were not prevalent. No vegan ice cream shoppes, no vegan mini-malls, not even a decent vegan cheese. Fast-forward 15 years and there are still only a handful of all-vegan establishments in the Garden State.
Janelle is a longtime vegan and activist. Her activism has evolved over the years with her goal being the most effective advocate for animals. Experience has taught her that vegan outreach is the single most beneficial form of animal rights activism. What better form of vegan outreach than a vegan restaurant. To be more exact...
The Killer Vegan Diner and Delicatessen will serve as a fun and relevant, yet familiar, vegan oasis of comfort food to all. Guided by Janelle, who already has years of experience working in the food service industry, the restaurant will use fresh ingredients to recreate plant-based versions of well-known favorites, allowing us to keep our feet planted in the traditional cuisine of the past with our sensibilities and ethics leaning towards the future.
The Impact
The Killer Vegan Diner and Delicatessen aims to provide innovative American, Latin and Italian vegan comfort food which nourishes the body, heart and mind. From our local omnivores looking for a change that's familiar, to our vegan customers looking to reclaim the food of their childhoods, we strive to give everyone a reason to visit us and a reason to return. Through our delicious food, inviting environment and multi-tiered social commitment we hope to make the world a better place one guest at a time.
Where We Are, What We Need & What You Get
Killer Vegan does private catering and exclusively supplies a local restaurant with their desserts. We also host a weekly pop-up Sunday brunch buffet at the same restaurant and have received wildly positive reviews. Revenue from the brunch goes directly towards purchasing equipment and supplies for our own restaurant. These pop-up brunches will continue until Killer Vegan's doors open.
The Killer Vegan Diner and Delicatessen is almost there. We've secured our lease and completed 85% of our renovations. What we really need is the money to secure the rest of our equipment including a big ol' deli case, double convection oven, worktop refrigeration, two commercial panini grills and a few odds and ends.
We are asking for $15,000 but anything more will help make the diner that much more Killer! Either way, we will open. It's just a matter of when. That's where you come in.
Thank you so much for your support. Together we WILL make a difference.
Your contribution will help The Killer Vegan Diner and Delicatessen be all it can be!
