Mark Linkous, the driving force behind the band Sparklehorse, was the man who literally died and came back to life. His existence mirrored his mesmerising and unique music. He was at once a humble, modest man; the epitome of a Southern Gentlemen. He was also a recovering addict who battled with debilitating bouts of depression. The dual nature of his personality reflects the extremes of his music; beautiful, surreal, off-kilter pop contrasted with dark, distorted ballads and discordant punk-rock.

The Sad and Beautiful world of Sparklehorse - a feature length music documentary, has been a labor of love for almost three years...

Alex Crowton and Balwant Dass; close friends and collaborators for more than a decade have worked tirelessly to produce a film that depicts their shared passion for Sparklehorse. They also produced and shot an entirely self funded promo for Mark Linkous in 2007.

After a long battle with depression, Linkous committed suicide by shooting himself in the heart in 2010. Linkous was a man who had no other choice but to be a musician, operating in the space between creative genius and insanity. The film will explore the links between creativity and self destructive behaviour.

Linkous was championed by and collaborated with some of the most iconic artists of modern times including, Radiohead, David Lynch, Danger Mouse, PJ Harvey, Tom Waits and The Flaming Lips.

The filmmakers have already shot UK based interviews with Jonathon Donahue and Grasshopper (Mercury Rev), Ed Harcourt, Gemma Hayes, Adam Wiltzie (Stars of the Lid), Emily Haines (Metric) and Matthew Wright and are now looking to fund the U.S and European leg of production.

50% of the film is in the can but your contribution will help complete the documentary, helping to allow for further interviews with friends and collaborators of Sparklehorse, pay for the post-production and distribution of the finished film.

Contributors will get perks ranging from Thank You credits, an exclusive extended DVD of the film, and evn an 'Executive Producer' credit. You will get well looked after!

Please help to preserve the legacy of this great musician by donating; remember to tell your friends and family about the film too!

The Sad & Beautiful World of Sparklehorse will provide a retrospective about the often dramatic life of Mark Linkous and his unique music style.
