It shouldn't take someone 10 years of training before they feel safe walking down the street at night!
Who Am I And What Am I Doing?
My name is Jordan Bill and I teach martial arts. I've been training since I was 10 years old (20 years now!) and have been teaching for the last 8. I'm certified in:
-Muy Thai,
-Boxing,
-Submission Wrestling,
-Defensive Tactics
-Senior Instructor in Combat Systema,
-2nd black belt in Kempo Jujitsu.
Aside from teaching, I work as the head of a security team, a body guard and a consultant for films and video games. I write a weekly training blog at scrapyardfighting.com, where I also host free instructional videos.
This instructional DVD is designed to teach the fundamentals of self defense for those who do not have the option of training in a class, for whatever reason. We tested various techniques and concepts from over a dozen styles to examine what works best and most often. The situations that we're looking at are the most common violent crimes, based on recent crime stats and police reports. This way, we're only training for the most likely threats and only working on the concepts that have achieved the greatest results.
What We Need & What You Get
Right now we are looking to raise funds for the post-production costs of the video. The funds will be going to hiring training partners for filming, renting mat time at the dojo and packaging the DVDs to get them ready to ship out.
Our perks are a good way for you to pre-order the DVD at a discounted price! As a backer, you'll also be the first to receive them and also exclusive bonuses that no one else will have access to after the official release!
If we don't reach our full goal, the funds will go to creating the actual DVDs after we're done filming and editing, which will take much longer because we'll be working around the dojo's busy schedule and relying on volunteer assistants.
Putting the "Kick" in "Kickstarter"
This campaign is important for me for a number of reasons, one of them being that I feel this is something missing in the martial arts community. Before I found my current dojo (16 years ago!), I didn't have the money to train in a class but I had the passion for martial arts. To compensate I would order videos and study footage, mimicking and exploring techniques with any willing friend for years before I got into a formal setting.
I think that it's sometimes important to remove the labels and strip concepts down to their most effective form in order to teach someone right away.
We're also looking to avoid teaching hypotheticals in this video. By reviewing statistics, police reports and analyzing trends, we were able to isolate the most likely scenarios for violent crimes to take place. This way we're training for real threats right away.
I've had a lot of humbling and positive feedback, over the years, from my blog, videos, classes, seminars and book so I would like to rise to the challenge and take the next step in helping people feel safe.
