We made our goal but let's not stop! We need additional funds so we can film in Atlanta, Georgia. We will also be able to hire more professional services.
What is this all about?
We are passionate about music, film and advocacy, especially when all these things are put together in a powerful and artistic way. We are not shy about sharing our message, a universal message of acceptance and appreciation for all people.
We are making a short documentary about the Shadow Listener, an award-winning violinist and autism advocate, Laura Nadine. We filmed Laura during her visit to northern Arizona as she listened to the music of the landscape, the towns, and the people. The film will show her discussing what she is experiencing and how it relates to her as a musician and as a woman with autism. She performed her music at a special event held at the Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. With her violin, she shared her shadow songs of Arizona.
Who are we?
We are Wild Asperagus Productions, a video production company that specifically works on projects that expand awareness on issues related to people on the Autism spectrum. Our first project, Vectors of Autism: a documentary about Laura Nagle (see http://lauranagle.net/Film), has been a huge success, winning the Heart of the Festival Award at the 2013 Sedona International Film Festival and the 2013 AAIDD (American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities) Media Award. It has been screened across the country and in Canada.
John Schaffer (Director) has made several movies about disability issues. He worked for 15 years in the disability community and from that experience has seen that there are powerful voices in the community that need to be heard. He's had a lifelong love of filmmaking and even when his intended audience has been small, he still committed himself to the process of filmmaking.
Susan Marks (project team member) is a professor of special education and a tireless advocate for people with disabilities. She is always looking for ways to reach a larger audience concerning neurodiversity and disability issues.
What do we need from you?
We have big plans to make a great movie but we need some funds to make that a reality. Our budget is going towards renting professional equipment and hiring professional talent to maximize our production value. We will also pay for post-production services such as a sound mixer and colorist. Other expenses include food (yes, we are going to feed the talent and crew, hungry people are grouchy), travel (Arizona is big and it takes fuel to get around), and other odds and ends like dvds, film festival fees, payment fees, etc. (these things add up quickly!).
You can join us and help make this film project a huge success!
