The Film
The Sound of Ill
Days is a humorous drama
that follows Teresina, a performance artist who supports herself teaching
Spanish at a pre-school, and Patrick, a delusional writer and Twitter addict
who works at a bookstore. Over the course of seven ill days, “ill” both in the
sense of disturbed and its slang connotation of cool or exciting, their
marriage is challenged when new love interests enter the picture. Teresina
falls for charming streetwise Camilo, while Patrick pursues a digital
love-fueled romance with a girl named after iconic actress Monica Vitti. New
sensual appetites are released and notions of internal and external stability
are turned upside down.
Inspired by
Rojo Robles’ 2007 stage play El sonido de los días perdidos, the film is a re-telling of that play’s
absurdist love story with characters living in Brooklyn and experiencing the
struggles and joys of city life.
Beyond the love story, the
film confronts preconceptions about Puerto Rican and American identity,
inter-racial relationships, culture mingling and online addiction. This film is
an honest but playful look at the lives of New York artists and outcasts as we
have experienced it.

Your Contribution
The funding will be destined
to finance the shoot in Brooklyn during August 2014. Much of the budget will cover
the cost and/or rent of equipment, wardrobe/make-up, catering as well as making
sure that every department has the support it needs.
Inspired by the tenets of
Dogme 95 and the style of now classic New Wave cinema, we will be shooting only
in real or public locations- using natural or minimal lighting. We will embrace
improvisation and happy accidents in order to bring realism to the story. Rather
than cutting corners, we feel this will only add to the film.
Budget Layout

$10,000/ 33.3% Cast and crew
$7,000/ 23.3% Miscellaneous
