*Video Update will be available soon*![]()
The Tempest Smartband is multifunction device worn on the wrist, featuring a 180 degree flexible AMOLED display, a proprietary Operating System, optional 2 megapixel camera, and bluetooth connectivity. The device, when connected to a mobile phone, will automatically display notifications such as calls or messages as they are received, and wearers can refresh the display with a simple touch or press of the home button. Fully capable as a media device, the Tempest also features music, video playback, and gaming capabilities.

With a highly customizable interface, the Tempest Can be tailored to fit any style![]()
The Tempest Smartband features a rich, high resolution display The Why![]()
The Tempest was created to replace many of the functions normally
performed on a phone, all on a device conveniently out of the way. The
goal is to create a product that is beautiful, works seamlessly with
your other devices, and helps enhance productivity and general quality
of life.
The WhatHighly Customizable User InterfaceThere are many devices on the market, both commercial and crowd funded, that make use of curved displays. What sets the Tempest apart from other devices is the proprietary Software that is custom designed for the Tempest's unique look, feel, and screen size.

Standing Profile of Device and CameraIn consideration of the above, the goal of the Tempest Software is to utilize the device's 180 degree screen to the fullest. To that extent, the Tempest Team has envisioned a highly customizable user interface that allows the user complete control of their device. Everything from backgrounds, clock placement, and scale of icons and interface is easily adjusted by the user through the Tempest's desktop interface. Transitions, notification updates, and how the device handles calls can be completely optimized to the preferences of each individual. The design of the interface focuses on customization and ease of use, and our goal to make the source and device completely open, allowing users to modify as they see fit. Long term, the device is intended to support custom applications from the user base.
Screen control is central to wrist devices, and Tempest's interface allows the screen to be situation dependent; Users can choose to utilize the only the right, left or central part of the screen. Partial or full use of the 180 degree display is up to the user, which wrist the device is resting on, and the task being performed.
Currently the Tempest supports only English, but we do plan to add support for additional languages.
Notifications
![]()
The device will support
notifications from most major communication apps, as well as call and
text notifications. Notifications can be customized to be viewed with
the device rotated either vertically or horizontally, and new
notifications will slide in as they are received. Priorities can be
assigned to certain notifications, so that they will either stay on top
of the notifications list, or are ranked as always highly visible. Font
size, brightness and background can all be adjusted to individual
preference. Users can tap in to notifications that they are interested
in for a more detailed view.
Calls![]()
Incoming and outgoing
calls can be controlled from the device; calls that are incoming will
automatically cause the Tempest to light up with the caller's name,
number and photo(if existing on the device). A simple touch slide will
result in the call being answered via headphones. Outgoing calls can be
accessed through either the address book or touch pad. While calls are
ongoing, new notifications will be displayed briefly on the screen
before fading.
GamingThe Tempest features certain games customized for the device's display and touch interface. Users will be able port over and create custom games through the Tempest SDK.
Music Player![]()
The Tempest features a fully
functioned music player. Supporting all widely used formats, users
simply upload music files to the device, and the Tempest will
automatically sort them for playback. Playlists can be created on the
device itself or while uploading the files. Album art is supported as
well. Customized visuals synced to music can be displayed while music is
playing on the device.
A Camera Controlled From Your Smartphone![]()
An
optional feature of the Tempest designed for those who like to
frequently take photos, the device incorporates a 2 megapixel camera at
the back of the band. Users can then place the band at a location,
activate the Tempest WiFi, connect, preview the shot, and then set a
timer for the Tempest to take the photo.
The How
![]()
The Tempest Device DetailsThe
device can be separated into 2 pieces, and then interlocked again to be
worn. This gives the device a seamless feel, without the need for
hinges. High quality adjusters will be included with the product to help conform to the user's wrist and wrist size.
Software: We are creating custom software for the Tempest
device, designed to be compatible with most major mobile Operating
Systems and communications apps. As this is the most crucial aspect of
our device, we are looking to expand the programming team as our next
step.
Memory: The device will come with internal memory of 4GB
initially, however this can be scaled up, and tiers of the device with
more on-board memory will be offered.
Screen: We are currently testing
screens to find the optimal resolution and screen curvature. We are
using sample screens from our suppliers, based in China, to see which
variation provides the result we are looking to achieve. Our screens on the final product will be full resolution flexible AMOLED.

Accelerometer: Standard to accommodate rotations/tilt.
Shaped
Battery: We are using custom shaped batteries to accommodate our
design. Our tests show that the device should be able to accommodate a
battery in the 800mA range. While the device will be optimized for media
usage, heavy use of the device's media functions will affect battery
performance.

Simplified diagram of TempestThe
Tempest's final form factor will be adjusted after the majority of work
has finished to account for internal components and average wrist size,
to help with scaled production. We do not expect the shape to differ
significantly from our projections.
Processor: ARM Cortex A Variant.
Bluetooth: Full Bluetooth 4.0 functionality.
Wifi: Standard Wifi functionality.
As of the moment, our current timeline is the below:

Software
development will be ongoing throughout this process, and we will
include a separate update exclusively for that aspect. We will try our
hardest to make sure we are operating within the timeline, and if
anything changes we will update ASAP.
As we progress with the Tempest Project, we will post updates here regularly.
