My name is Joseph Klest. For over twenty years I have been representing victims of sexual abuse, prosecuting claims against their abusers, and often, the institutions that harbored them. I have represented victims in hundreds of claims against many different Catholic organizations.
The first thing that many people think of when the someone mentions "sexual abuse" is the Catholic Church. They have certainly become the media's poster child for the sexual abuse dilemma.

There is no statistical evidence that shows more abuse occurred in the Catholic Church than in any other institution, organization, or for that matter your home town. Most data, as well as my own experience, demonstrates that the problem is similarly present across all religions, organizations, and nationalities, yet the Catholic Church seems to get an inordinate amount of press on the issue.
This injustice has puzzled me for years. Since I pursue abuse cases against a wide variety of institutions, I questioned why the Catholic church has taken the brunt of the heat? Is there something in the Catholic church's structure that made them more vulnerable? Deep pockets? Media bias? If the problem is similarly present in all religions, why is the Cathloic Church the only one with a "crisis"?
This documentary will address this complex and troubling question. Our greatest asset is our children and their well being is our responsibility. It’s time we look past the headlines and set the record straight about the actual extent of child sexual abuse in our society.

The Impact
The media's hyper-focus on the Catholic Church creates a dangerous lapse-of-attention to abuse occuring regularly in other organizations and througout society...
The media focus on Catholic clergy does lull us into carelessness, when we should be aware that child sexual abuse occurs in every setting where adults have access to children. The problem is much broader than advertised, and we need to expand our focus beyond what the media feeds us.

There are over one Billion people in the world that claim their moral base in the Catholic Church. It seems foolish and narrow minded to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
