Hello!
We are Vantage Point Theatre, and before we ask you for your money, we would like to ask you:
- How often do you feel lonely?
- What do you usually do about it?
- When was the last time you admitted you were lonely?
Loneliness, social anxiety and isolation affect all ages and walks of life, and can be very hard to talk about. We are closer to each other than ever before, our cities are increasingly overpopulated, and we can communicate across the world in an instant, so why is this the age of loneliness? What can we do with the knowledge, that, deep down we are essentially and finally alone?
Last year, when we were feeling a bit lonely, we decided to make a show about it.
THIS MIGHT BE IT debuts this December at Theatre N16 in Balham – our way to start a conversation and confront loneliness together. We want to make it okay to talk about loneliness.
To help with this, we will need to raise £2000 over these 60 days.
Since starting, we have had so many people come up to us and share their own stories of loneliness. We want to bring people together through theatre, to help us talk about it and make a positive impact on the people around us, and the people who share our lives.
Your support will help make this conversation grow. All of your generous donations, large or small, go entirely towards making THIS MIGHT BE IT happen. You will enable us to:
- Create a unique world, and set of sounds, movement, and characters to challenge our perceptions and assumptions about loneliness, solitude and being alone
- Reach out to charities and organisations with a view to using the show to help those most affected by loneliness
- Follow the extra-live movement, encouraging a relaxed, open access approach to theatre
- Print and distribute our press campaign, to reach as diverse an audience as possible, particularly those who may not otherwise come to the theatre
- Use the proceeds from ticket sales to go towards future development of the conversation, and to rewarding the hard work of our creative team.
And that's not all. This production is just the first step. We want THIS MIGHT BE IT to develop and grow in 2017, and to weave in the experience and response from our audience in December. By bringing this conversation to as wide a community as possible, particularly those who feel most alone, or who rarely engage with theatre, we can help make it okay to talk about loneliness, our experience of being alone, and what we can do about it, together.
WHO WE ARE
Vantage Point Theatre is a collective of performers and artists from around the world, devising daring theatre about the wider picture. Collaborative curiosity is at the heart of our group. Everyone at Vantage Point has equal ownership over the work: we believe in a theatre that grapples with our shared experience of life. Our team trained at Central and RADA, and have worked with leading companies including Complicité, Frantic Assembly, and West Yorkshire Playhouse. THIS MIGHT BE IT will be our debut show.
