TIMES LIKE THESE

Synopsis:
After immigrating to Queens, New York, Marisol has suffered alone and in silence at
the hands of her abusive and cheating husband for years. Now pregnant with her
second child, her desperation to save her young son and soon-expected daughter from
this hell has reached its breaking point.
The catalysts that finally make Marisol muster up the courage to escape are the words
from her son, “Mom, get us out of here”, and the encouragement of her neighbor,
Gladys. One night, she wakes her son while her husband is asleep. They escape with
nothing but the clothes on their backs. Marisol is all alone in a new country with no
means of support, but she knows she must find the strength to make a better future for
her children.

Let’s Finish What We Started...
We have 85% of the film completed. But the film still needs more work to be 100%
completed. The cast and crew will reunite later this month to finish what we’ve started.
We will shoot for another two days in Queens, NY.
In addition to raising funds for our two additional shooting days, the money raised
will help “Times Like These” see the light of day. Part of the money raised will go
towards Festival Submissions. Our plan for TLT is to submit the film to film festivals
across the country and around the world.
The cast and crew are working for below their usual rates and some are even
giving their time for free to be a part of this project. If we don’t raise these additional
funds we will have to sacrifice the opening scene of the film: the grand wedding scene.
By not raising the additional funds, TLT will also have a more limited life span on the film
festival circuit. Our goal has always been to share this film with as many people as
possible, and in order to do that, we have numerous festivals we will be submitting to.
This story deserves to be told and to be given the opportunity to reach as wide an
audience as possible.
Why Is This Story Important?
A note from the Director:

Marisol is my mother. Her story is one that I know many can relate to, however different
their personal story of survival may be. I've always felt compelled to tell my mother's
story. And this film is my chance to give her a voice. It has taken me fourteen years to
tell such a personal story. I was four when my parents got divorced, so what you see in
the movie are all memories I have as a child.
It would mean the world to me to bring this story to the screen. Marisol is my mother.
My hope for this film is for women to find inspiration from my mother's perseverance
and strength. Her courage has certainly inspired me. I want women to feel empowered if
they find themselves in the same situation as Marisol.
And on a personal note, this film is my opportunity to give something back to my
mother who deserves this and so much more. Making this film is my opportunity
to thank my hero, the person I am honored to call my mom.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support! Thank you for
helping me shine a light on all the women that have been physically and
emotionally abused by their spouse and on all the mothers that make courageous
decisions for the sake of their children.
Thank you again for everyone who contributed the first time, you all have a
special place in our hearts. And to the new contributors, thank you for joining
the TLT family. The words on this page cannot fully express what this project
means to everyone involved. We will forever be grateful for all of you who have
embarked on this journey with us.-
