About Torn
Writer/Director Deana Williams introduces us to “Torn” her
second independent short film about a love affair gone wrong. Following the success of her first independent short entitled, “Tracks” Deana delves deeper into the world of relationships in which
two women find each other at odds with themselves and one another. Like her first film Deana takes elements of
her own life and pours it into the script writing process, originally based on
true events the film took on a whole new meaning when the writer/director’s
life began to mirror what was on the written page.
Film Synopsis:Korey and Angela have been in love for the
past 5 years. Korey is now ready to take their relationship to the next level
but Angela doesn’t share the same sentiment. Soon secrets are revealed and
their love is put to the test.
As a way of release the experience of
producing “Torn” became the cathartic event in her life that would help get her
through one of the most difficult and challenging phases of it and now she
plans to share that story with the world.
If we are not using our gifts, talents, and art to expand the
consciousness of human kind then we are wasting our time. A firm believer in the power of film to
transform lives Deana hopes to speak to the multitude of individuals who relate
to and struggle with the demons that plague us in our relationships with
ourselves and others. We must tell our
own stories for in doing that we speak to our own kind and in that way we reach
out to all others. In a world almost
devoid of the African-American lesbian experience “Torn” serves as a unique
presence, breaking with the stereotypical archetype of the black lesbian female
we tell a tale that holds and bears no judgment about flawed individuals who
like everyone else are trying to make their way in this world.
Our hope and intention is to let our audience
know that we see them and to reflect back to them their own stories for by
doing so we transform and elevate them and they in turn do that to the world
they live in.
