Short Summary

The water crisis in Africa is not just a drinking water crisis — it’s also a food crisis. Available seeds are loaded with complex and sophisticated genetic technology just waiting for the right conditions to multiply and produce food, but they need water to work. Water in arid climates is often just out of reach for crop irrigation and so food shortages turn out to be technology shortages.

This all started when a mechanical engineer from Denver took a trip to help drill water wells in Niger Africa. Virtually on the banks of the Naimey River he witnessed hunger and thirst in primitive conditions. Locals, subsisting in dusty villages less than a mile from a flowing river, could not grow enough food. That’s when he had his “Eureka!” moment.

With your help, Africa is about to get an update! A simple, reliable, ancient innovation for pumping water first discovered by Archimedes (287-212 BC) can now be updated with modern technology to revolutionize local agriculture in Africa.

Fast forward to Denver Colorado where a few of us have developed a way to bring this updated technology in a cheap sustainable way to Niger Africa. We connect the water already in abundance there with the will to make a difference. Our new Current Pump will help meet the irrigation needs of many small farmers living close the Niger River.

This pump works day and night! It doesn't require fuel. It doesn't need maintenance. It’s cheap and reliable. It can even be sourced locally. By using the current naturally produced by the river, the anchored pump spins like a water wheel pumping the water through an attached hose to nearby fields or a water storage facilities — Voilà! Archimedes 2.0

As Archimedes once famously said, “Give me a lever long enough and I will move the world”. This fundraising campaign is how we begin to leverage the technical innovation of the Current Pump to quickly meet agricultural needs now and help create small-scale economies in the near future. You can help us move the world, starting in Niger, Africa.

What We Need | What You Get

We need start-up funds to build our pumps, get them into Niger and train local manufacturers. With your donations we will:

  • Build 20 pumps
  • Ship them overseas
  • Install and monitor them

Successfully accomplishing these goals, your donation will then allow us to:

  • Create local trust and demand for our pumps
  • Teach local builders how to build them
  • Help make connections between local manufacturers, distributors and farmers

Once these trainings and connections have been completed, we will move to another region, primed with sufficient need and an ideal environment to receive the next round of Current Pumps.

Your donations are the foundation of our movement to revolutionize the small-farm industry in Niger and around the world. We are thankful. This is why we want to offer you tokens of our appreciation. Please take a look at the perks we offer to show a small fraction of our gratitude.

The Impact

Your donations will help us meet our short-term, medium-term and long-term goals:

  • Install 20 pumps in Niger in 2014
  • Help empower local manufacturers and distributors to develop the entire market around Current Pumps, from locally-sourced materials to locally-grown crops.
  • Expand our irrigation revolution around the world!

Other Ways You Can Help

Some people just can’t contribute money, but that doesn’t mean you can’t help:

  • Talk to your friends, and help us make some noise about our campaign.
  • Use the Indiegogo share tools to expand the reach of our campaign.
  • Support us on our social media outlets (below).

Our goals are ambitious. We cannot help these people alone. No matter how you help, we are honored to have your support! Thank you!
