Hi,
I’m John D’Amico, the writer and director of Very Little, an original one-act play debuting this August at the NY Fringe Festival. Very Little is a play set 150 years ago in the midst of the Civil War. We follow a small troop of Union soldiers sent on a reconnaissance mission to the Everglades. There, on the hottest night of the year, one young Corporal accidentally shoots a Native American woman.
Very Little is a play about the Civil War – about the scope and lingering impact of it on every facet of American life - but in a larger sense it’s simply a story about the toll of war on the human psyche. It’s a play about living with guilt, about growing up, about coming to grips with your actions and your fears.
It’s also, I think, a pretty quirky play with some funny characters and lyrical moments complimenting its exploration of serious themes.
This show has already been accepted by the New York Fringe Festival, which assures it a run of at least 5 days. The script is finished and the show has been cast jampacked with talented and energetic actors. This is a tremendous opportunity for us and we’re all very excited.
We made it halfway on our own, but now we need your help.
To date, between the steep cost of rehearsal space and the many fees and expenses of the festival, I’ve already spent over a thousand dollars of my own money on this project, and the real work has hardly begun.
If you choose to invest, your money will go to renting rehearsal space and period-appropriate costumes, to building our sets, to advertising, and to cover the many incidental costs of the festival itself - like insurance and press photos.
There aren't many other shows quite like this one out there, and we all think this production has a lot of potential. We have a great cast, strong script, and a unique take on a universal theme. We think you'll like it, and we'd very much appreciate your support.
As well as contributing money, you can be a part of this process by following us on Twitter (@verylittleplay) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/verylittleplay), by sharing our campaign with your friends and family, and most importantly: by seeing Very Little this August!
Thank you very much for your time! We hope to see you in August!
