 If you've ever played a role playing game, maybe you have had the opportunity to live an adventure in one of the best atmospheres of all times, the background created by H.P. Lovecr

aft with the Chtulhu Mythos.

 

Lovecraft was an author of horror, fantasy and science fiction, especially the subgenre known as weird fiction. Lovecraft's guiding aesthetic and philosophical principle was what he termed "cosmicism" or "cosmic horror" where the life is incomprehensible to human minds and that the universe is fundamentally inimical to the interests of humankind.

His stories, worthy of any noir novel, his beasts and creatures forged by the more alien and visceral terror to which humanity has had the misfortune to confront, are the highlight of what you can find in the role playing games that reflect his magnificient work.

From the legendary game of percentages to the versatile D20 system, different regulations have attempted to capture the terror that poured, time and time again, from the pen of Lovecraft and so many other artists who followed him.

After examining all the material published so far, we find expansions and modules, some of great quality as the 'Orient Express' or the mythical 'Masks of Nyarlathotep' among others. But we also find many pure filler material with little to none interest.

 

So we, as hardened players, want to help with our little bit to this wonderful world of horror literature.

"The Thing on the Doorstep"

 

What would happen if there were an organization, a society that took charge of investigating the Myths providing a headquarters and able members, experts in occult, history and with all the information that the narrator and the players need for involving directly new characters? The characters would be aware of the world in which they live and would have the confidence of the rest of the group, because they belong to the same society. The result would be a Player Character ready for action, that only has to be informed of what has happened so far.

 

What are the benefits of having a research society?. The game becomes more dynamic, entertaining, and avoids having to introduce new characters who may have died or lost their sanity prematurely. The Society itself is an inexhaustible source of literary devices that enrich the game, where the narrator can also provide elements and privileged information to the players right in the beginning or throughout the game, helping them even if they get stuck without knowing what to do at some point in the plot.  It also allows the narrator not only to use Non Player Characters that are relevant or have been members of society, but to also provide you, within the campaigns, of unique antagonists, occult societies, sectarian witches and all manner of creatures of the Mythos.

 

In summary, here we present a setting's tool for the Narrator. A paranormal investigation society with detailed information about their offices around the globe, as well as the relevant assets and the characters that you can use to further enrich your modules.

The book will be published in PDF format to download from the web, and the money we ask for is destined to meet the payment of the different artists who are collaborating in its creation. At any rate, if you wish it, you can have a physical copy for your own use via online publishers where you will pay only the cost of printing, handling and transportation.

 

Details of Project:

 

-        We will include a new Weird fiction tale as introduction, written by an award-winning writer  to reflect the atmosphere of the society in the universe of myths.

 

-        Full description of the different headquarters of the Society in different places around the world (Arkham, London, Cairo...).

 

-        Portrait and description of the main assets and characters of the Society. The leaders of the Society, its founders and leading members will be described as NPCs.

 

-        Chronology of the Society beginning in 1890 until the 20's. Description of its foundation, beginnings and subsequent expansion  throughout the globe.

 

-        A Campaign divided into modules that can be played separately or consecutively around the world.

 

-        Throughout the description, several ideas and tips will be given to help you create new scenarios.  We will also publish a quick method of games creation, for those times when you want to play, but you have not anything prepared in advance.

 

-        New monsters and criatures, new secret societies and sectarian antagonists.

 

The manual will be richly illustrated and edited, with an emphasis on the described characters, which are included in numerous short stories along the book.

 

In addition the manual will be published simultaneously in English and Spanish.

What would we do if we overcome the initial objectives of the project?

 

Well, our goal is to make our dream come true making an easy and comprehensive handbook to facilitate the work of making an adventure in the Lovecraft's worlds. It's just that. But if we get enough, we will extend the story by adding new elements to walk over the time and the shadows. We dont want to be left in the basic manual, we want to extend the history of the Society beyond the 20s. Our proposals are:

 

The aforementioned plus an extension of the manual describing the Heissenberg Society in World War II. The Nazis intended to use magic to control an unimaginable power. In their sheer folly, they recruited experts occultists of similar ideology with the intention not only to win the war, but to rule later with the help of the yoke of alien horror. New weapons, more monsters, antagonists and allies in a setting that mixes the classic horror background with an atmosphere of battles, politicians, spies, soldiers and dozens of hidden secrets to discover.

 

An additional adventure: Between 1914 and 1918 there were 5 planetary conjunctions, each of which leading to catastrophic consequences that caused the suffering of many but whose news were hidden thanks to contacts and money. They were just the preamble of the conjunction that now, in 1921, will happen, concluding the cycle and provoking the advent of  "The Expected". A sect with multiple branches, a leader, many individuals involved and a complex plot in which mankind faces a danger that can only be avoided solving an enigma of such complexity that it will need the most experienced researchers.

 

It is obvious that these extensions will only begin if we get enough funds. Making a book, even a small one, requires an enormous effort on the part of many professionals who dedicate their time, effort, knowledge and experience so that the objective is completed properly. We do not intend to do something simple, with the idea of an early completion. We want to create a good manual to be a reference and that would be made so that it looks like a good tool for roleplaying games themed in the worlds of Myths created by Lovecraft.
