Comics From the Farthest Corner of the Earth
Every year, Cloudscape Comics releases a new graphic novel anthology built around a specific theme. This year, we are proud to present our seventh compilation: Waterlogged - Tales from the Seventh Sea.
Prepare yourself for a gorgeous hardcover tome printed in blue & black and featuring over 30 different artists from British Columbia!
Waterlogged is overflowing with all sorts of nautical goodness: explorers, kraken, pirates, mermaids, naval officers, ghosts, and more can all be found between the pages. Living as we do on North America's rainy northwest coast, the sea is always on our artists' minds. Each story is one creator's unique response to our great blue neighbour.
Cloudscape Comics
The Cloudscape Comics Society is a nonprofit artists' group based in Vancouver, dedicated to supporting indie comics creators of all sorts. We have weekly gatherings, run events for the public, host a studio space for our members, and of course create comics. We have a lot of experience making good books but without a publisher to back us, we rely on eager readers like you to fund each print run. We need your help to make this project a reality.
What We Need
Because this project is a bit more ambitious than most we've done, the print cost is a little higher. With printing and shipping costs, Cloudscape needs to raise at least $6500 to get this going. If we make more than that, then more books will be printed! We have some stretch goals in mind too.
What You Get
Waterlogged is going to be Cloudscape's best book yet! Filled with beautiful seafaring tales, the collection boasts works from such fantastic artists as Sam Logan (Sam & Fuzzy), Angela Melick (Wasted Talent), Nina Matsumoto (Yokaiden, Bongo Comics), Colin Upton (Postmodern Mini-Comics), Gabriel Frizzera, Lucy Bellwood (Baggywrinkles), Jonathon Dalton (A Mad Tea-Party), Laura Bifano, Jeff Ellis (Teach English in Japan) and many others.
The book will:
- be hardcover
- have a limited palette of blue and black
- be over 200 pages!
- have more than 30 artists and writers' work inside
We are selling a variety of our other creations as part of this fundraiser, including:
- many of our previous anthologies
- members' personal graphic novels
- ebooks
- prints
- your personal avatar drawn by one of our artists

WE DID IT!
Thank-you to everyone who contributed! We did it! We made the goal! And we couldn't have done it without you. There's only a little over a day left, but at this point I think it's time to start unleashing some stretch goals! Here are the extra things we can throw in if we make the following targets:
At $7500:
- Two new ebooks will be added to the "Barrel-Full of Ebooks" at no extra charge. One will be Chop Suey by Jonathon Dalton, and the other will be a surprise (I'm still securing the rights to the book that I want to include).
- Every reward at $45 or more will get a sticker of our Cloudscape coat of arms from Giants of Main Street, and a sheet of six temporary tattoos based on the gorgeous tattoos some of our artists drew for the title pages in Waterlogged.
At $8000:
- Every reward that needs to be physically mailed to backers will include one temporary tattoo and one sticker.
- Every reward worth $45 or more will also include a minicomic version of This Is How F***ing Scary the Ocean Is by Colleen Webber, which was originally going to be a part of Waterlogged, but couldn't be included because of its unusual size.
