Short Summary

I'm John Lepper. Horror is my life. Ever since my dad showed me Halloween when I was a teenager, I have been obsessed with horror and, in particular, slashers. While I was in high school, I came up with an idea for a story about a government agency that fights slashers.

That was almost a decade ago. Now I own and write for theblood-shed.com, a horror news site. I produce, act, and do special effects for horror films. Horror is my life. And I am now, with the help of artist Bryan Revell and letterer Alex Giles, ready to make my story a reality. 

We Kill The Dead is a horror/action comic that is a love letter to the slasher genre.  It is about a secret government agency whose mission is to combat thano-sapiens, undead killers such as Jason or Freddy. This first story of a planned trilogy entails Joanna, a survivor of a thano-sapien attack at her college, who enlists in the SSTB (Supernatural Special Tactics Bureau). Shortly after she joins, Jack the Ripper returns as a demonic being, last seen when SSTB leader, Nathan Scrimm, blew his head off with a grenade in the 80's. Now Jo, Nate, and the more-than-slightly-disturbed Agent Cooper race to discover the secret to stopping the legendary serial killer while battling an army of thano-sapiens under Jack's control. 

We are also featuring cameos from 15 actual slashers from actual horror movies, having been granted this right by their copyright holders. For instance, we have access to Stitches the clown from Stitches:

What We Need & What You Get

To make this comic a reality, we needs funds. I have been in contact with a publishing company up in Canada and have received a quote where I can print 5000 units of a 32 page comic book for about $2000. We Kill The Dead is a four issue mini series, for a total of $8000 for 5000 units of the full run. We hit that, and the first issue will be out as soon as January 1st of 2016!

We have some great perks. We have issues, signed items, Indiegogo exclusive tee shirts and prints, mp3's, opportunities to be drawn into the book, the list goes on! And it all leads up to an amazing horror comic written by a horror fan for horror fans!

The Impact

This is a horror comic written by a horror fan for other horror fans. If you like slasher films, action movies, or horror comics, this is going to be a story you don't want to miss! This is a love letter to the slasher genre! 

We are also, with our 15 cameos from different independently owned characters, breaking a world record for most separately owned characters appearing in a comic book crossover and as such we plan to get this record certified by Guinness upon publication! So, not only is this comic a slice of awesome, it's a slice of awesome that makes history!

Risks & Challenges

This is an independently published comic. We don't have the backing of a huge company like Marvel or DC. That limits our audience. I will overcome this by drawing on my contacts in the horror genre. Many of the owners of the cameo characters will be pushing the book, we will be putting up articles on theblood-shed.com and contacting our friends at other horror sites for coverage as well, and we will use social media to our advantage to build an audience across dozens of horror and comic book fan groups.
