Spirit leaping from the screen... Healing bouncing around the room...
That is what is happening when we screen footage from the Mobile Homecoming. The Mobile Homecoming Film and Online Series along with the documentary about an affirming and inclusive Ifa Spiritual Community are coming along sooo well. They have already changed my life and I want them to change yours. After struggling for over a year I understand that the missing link is you. I need community support to get these projects done. I want community to support my shift from living un-sustainably as I get it done SLOW to living sustainably as I increase productivity and accountability.
This fundraiser is to support the liberation work of Julia Roxanne Wallace/Sangodare Akinwale using multimedia and art as a tool to connect to legacy. Collaborating with Sista Docta Alexis Pauline Gumbs, we facilitate transformation and the transfer of legacy through the Mobile Homecoming (MbHc), black feminist film school (bffs) and Queer Renaissance.

There are 3 projects that your tax-deductible contribution will benefit. Monthly Sustainers will receive perks at the level of their 12 month contribution http://www.mobilehomecoming.org/donate/ (NOTE: these donations made through paypal are not tax deductible). By bundling these 3 projects together I am able to maximize our resources, share more of what we have created so far AND take advantage of opportunities to collaborate with other orgs and individuals to distribute and apply for grants to support the ongoing work.
For example fixing my old & broken "on the road" computer and buying a computer that will work more efficiently that does not travel; renting equipment and using it for more than one project while we have it; hiring a specialist like a sound engineer to sweeten the sound for multiple projects; and/or applying for large grants along with a network of aligned organizations are all things that these funds will make possible.
Funds will benefit:

When We Free
When We Free is a film about a recently freed black community's first camp meeting since emancipation. They search for balance between the spiritual traditions they have brought across the Atlantic and those learned in the New World while in bondage. When We Free is a part of the Queer Renaissance vision of creating the world anew by first creating new possibilities and safe space to explore our complex identities. Historical accounts and traditional music and practices will be the canvas that this film ritual is built on.
This film will also serve as an opportunity for black feminist film school participants to get hands on training. learn more... - http://blackfeministfilmschool.wordpress.com/
Office and Infrastructure
Running several organizations including a multimedia studio out of one room in a small home is not going so well.
![]()
Office and Infrastructure is needed to create the structure and space for Julia/Sangodare to finish media projects and complete When We Free in a timely fashion. The 7 existing projects in there final stages - 4 short films in progress, 2 features and the Mobile Homecoming Mixtape which are all a part of the Queer Renaissance vision of creating the world anew - have all benefited from private screenings and some have been screened at film festivals. However, we are ready to put the finishing touches on them so that they can live on their own. (Keep reading to learn more!)

Finish Projects / Mobile Homecoming
Mobile Homecoming is an intergenerational experiential archive project that amplifies generations of queer black brilliance (aka lgbtq/sgl/homoattractional brilliance). The resources will go to support the editing and post-production for the Mobile Homecoming feature film through the end of the year. We have volumes and volumes of footage, images, documents and stories to share. Your contribution will help us share the documentation we have already done in more ways like sharing video and audio with archives, hosting more content on our website and sending DVDs to interviewees themselves and the archives in their own communities. We need help carving out the time and space to speed up
We are excited to finish projects we have started and open the roads
for the projects we are called to right now. These resources will give
me and my collaborators the base and foundation to 1) use our skills
optimally, 2) partner with individuals and organizations that are ready
and willing to lend support but need us to have a structure to sustain
partnership and 3) apply for grants to support this and future projects and apply to film festivals for screening opportunitiesos acrs the country.

I am a genderqueer black person born and raised in the south. My blood was made strong by Black Baptist church and my passionate work was ignited at the age of 5 by Michael Jackson's documentary about The Making of Thriller. I have been growing my super powers to communicate and transform myself and others by obtaining formal education, creating multimedia solutions for organizations and individuals, serving a number of affirming spiritual and religious communities, teaching and facilitating, co-hosting black feminist retreats in the south, and traveling the country growing family and honoring Black LGBTQ/SGL/Queer/Homoattractional elders.

B. I have equipment or skills I would like to donate? How can I contribute that?
Please contact me directly to discuss tax-deductible in-kind contributions or volunteering/donating time to our projects. I also have a list of needed equipment and an amazon wishlist.
C. What will you do with the funds if you don't reach your goal?
We
will reach our goal! But for the sake of being transparent about our
amazing contingency plans... These are the things that fall off the list
per $1000 short we are:
- No new Computer. We will only repair the 4 year old computer and keep moving forward.
- No Assistant Editor. Keep editing the feature length films solo.
- No taking extra time off outside projects. I will have to take on other paid work.
- We will lengthen the timeline and host more local and regional fundraisers.
- Less filmmaking & studio equipment. Instead of buying we will have to rent more equipment every time we need it.
D. What if you raise more than $9000? Can I donate more than $9000?
We intend to... We have a plan for funds beyond the $9000 we need to raise right now which includes but is not limited to:
- purchasing equipment that we would otherwise have to rent,
- a lil bit of much needed healthcare,
- hosting black feminist film school workshops and courses to give those underrepresented in the film industry very high quality skills,
- getting some follow up footage for some of our MbHc interviewees that we visited before we had a pro camera,
- pay for rights to use some amazing existing music on some of the feature length projects,
- do more research at the national archives for When We Free,
- buy the better but more expensive data storage system,
- upgrade our website for more audio and video sharing,
- address some of the security challenges with our website (get rid of spam comments),
- speed up the Pop-Up Theatre tour where we will screen some of these films as well as rarely seen black feminist films from the 60s-80s.
