THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Please feel free to keep the donations coming. We reached our $10,000 goal with plenty of time left to raise more money for additional production expenses that keep popping up. Our next goal is $25,000! We have been featured on MSNBC and Huffington Post, and we have been invited to travel to 9 different states, including to New York City to interview some very well-known health magazines! We would also be using the additional funding to help us with some essential animations for the film, and those need to be as awesome as possible! Thanks again, we love you, and we're still going strong!
Project Summary
I’ve lost 200 lbs in the last 9 ½ months. I didn’t do it so I could be sexy; I did it so I would be healthy. My name is Gabe Evans, and I’m the director of the project “Why Am I So Fat?”
I started this documentary because I knew it would be important. When anyone talks about weight loss, it always feels like the blame game. The way I wanted to approach the subject of obesity and weight loss was by asking “Why?”
We have been researching the science behind losing weight and what we have found is nothing short of extraordinary. I’ve been using what I’ve learned, and am achieving results that I never thought were possible. This project is important to me because it has affected my life deeply, and believe it has the potential to reach others as well.
Some of the celebrity trainers and nutritionists we are working with get the most unbelievable results. And it’s time this information was made available to the public.
We’ve also located some authors and experts that have discovered some incredible information in the world of weight loss, but they are scattered all over the world. We want to interview them in person so everyone can benefit from the knowledge they hold. This is where your contributions will go. We have them lined up, we just need to cover our travel expenses.
My background is in film production from the University of Texas at Austin, and I have since directed a music video for Keke Palmer on Interscope Records, co-directed a 13-episode wrestling TV series , and created and starred in a viral webseries entitled “How To, Batman!”
What We Need & What You Get
We need money for travel. We are based in Southern California, and we have driven multiple hours in every direction to get interviews. Now we’re at the point that we have some really exciting opportunities to work with calorie testing facilities, visit nationally respected food, fitness and health, companies, and speak with best-selling authors, all of which require travel expenses.
We have the equipment and crew and have been creating a great project locally. There are just too many knowledgeable people around the world and we want you to hear from them too.
What we need, is the means to get there; that’s where we hope you can help. We have been documenting the director’s progress for 6 months now, and have access to the equipment that we need to keep shooting, so funding isn’t needed to make our documentary look nice; it’s so we can meet the people that will make our documentary more exciting, all-encompassing, and provide the viewer with real answers they can use in their own weight loss endeavors.
Our perks for contributing to our cause range from the affordable to the extreme. If you’re interested in lending a helping hand, $5 can get you a thank you and the warm feeling that goes along with knowing you are helping the world lose weight, or $15,000 can get you 6 months of personal training and nutrition guidance from the same expert that helped me.
We want to be open and interactive with our audience, so we are offering DVDs, posters, and t-shirts, but we are also wanting to reach out to you about your weight loss struggles and give you tips, talk to you about your issues, and even go grocery shopping with you and cook you dinner!
$10,000 is our goal, but even if we don’t reach our entire goal, we’re going to use every dollar to its full potential to get interviews that we would have not had the means to get before.
Since our focus is on raising funds for travel right now, that doesn’t mean that $10,000 is all the support we need. We have production and post-production expenses, as well as a wide variety of marketing and advertising costs. Whatever you can give is greatly appreciated, and we will use it to benefit our end product in every way possible.
The Impact
Ask anyone how to lose weight and they will likely tell you: eat healthy, exercise more; but the answers, and results, stop there.
We’re providing the science behind the answers to truly inform the public and empower them to take control of their health, their weight and their lives.
Documentaries like Super Size Me, King Corn, Fast Food Nation and Forks Over Knives all touch on the subject of our diet and where food is coming from, but none of them delve into the science behind how that food truly affects our bodies. This is bigger than the food pyramid we learned in elementary school.
Other Ways You Can Help
We know money doesn’t grow on trees, so if you can’t donate right now, we understand. You can still help us out by sharing this page with everyone you know! Share it, tweet it, blog it, attach it to one of those forward e-mails your great-aunt Bess sends you everyday. Odds are, you know people who would love to donate to this cause.
