Short Summary

Rainsong Wildlife Sanctuary has been saving animals in Costa Rica since 2005. We are a registered NPO NGO [Non-profit Non-governmental] organization in Costa Rica. Located on the edge of the national park Cabo Blanco on the southern tip of the Nicoya peninsula, Rainsong's sanctuary is 28 acres of primary and secondary jungle habitat.
Our priority goals are :
*the rescue and rehabilitation then release of injured or orphaned animals and birds.
*Conservation Education in the public elementary schools of the southern Nicoya Peninsula area.
*Reforestation projects to enhance or create wildlife corridors for the wildlife. Rainsong offers FREE endangered & rare hardwoods and native fruit trees to landowners who want to plant trees for the animals and birds.
*Anti-poaching initiatives in communities where the poaching of wild animals is decimating native populations.
*the Re-introduction of species that have already become extinct in our area of Costa Rica.
*Rainsong's End Wildlife Electrocutions campaign: we work with the goverment-owned electric company to coordinate the insulation of the electrical grid in areas where arboreal wildlife cross and are killed by electrocution. we need help in covering costs for installing crossing bridges and transformer insulation covers.

What We Need & What You Get

to prepare for rainy season, we need to focus on these projects in the next few months :

  • the repair of several habitats in the Sanctuary and the construction of several new habitats
  • some roof repairs before the rains begin in May
  • the collection and bagging of trees for Reforestation projects to be carried out during rainy season [ May thru October]

To do all this, we need to purchase construction materials and new tools, as all of our building supplies were taken in a break in a few months ago.  We also need to raise funds for transportation costs for students involved in our reforestation projects in the area.  The donations that come in right now go directly to animal care, so we are in need of your support to help us make this sanctuary the best it can be!

PERKS:

  • $25 donation - we'll email you a photo of an animal you're helping
  • $50 donation - a tree will be planted in your honor
  • $100 donation - enjoy a live virtual tour of the rescue center
  • $500 donation - we'll name an animal habitat after you!

The Impact

Feel free to explain more about your campaign and let people know how the difference their contribution will make:

With global warming, poaching and deforestation on the rise, the jungles are being depleted, habitats are being lost and food is running short.  Costa Rica is currently experiencing one of the worst drought they've ever seen, and the time to act for change is now.  By reintroducing endangered plant species into the wild, we are able to create new habitats for animals.  With community engagement, we can educate about the dangers of poaching and deforestation, and stand with the communities as they develope plans to preserve the environments that surround us all.  The animal care centre that we run is particularly crucial right now, as we are able to run programs here to repopulate animals that are in danger of extinction with the changing climate.  With your help, we can work to preserve the beauty and biodiversity of the Costa Rican wilderness.

Rainsong has successfully revitalized the forest after deforestation for agriculture and rebuilt the food chain on the 28-acre piece of land that is our sanctuary enough for a mother Jaguar to return to have her young three years in a row, which is a major achievement in re-establishing biodiversity.  The sanctuary has also bred and re-populated many species of turtle, bird, rabbit and squirrel throughout the area, and continues to work hard at re-integrating animals back into the wild.  Rainsong has been campainging tirelessly to mandate all electrical wires be insulated to prevent electric shock injury to wildlife.  We do everything we can here to help the animals and the earth, and we hope to continue into the future. The planet needs our support!
