Not just a smaller phone on your
wrist
![]()
Existing smartwatches are geeky accessories instead
of the wristwatch that every smartphone owner would want to wear.
For a smartwatch to make sense, it shouldn't just be
a smaller smartphone. Instead, it actually needs to be better than the smartphone
for the tasks you are going to use it for. You are not going to write an email
on your watch, but you are going to check the weather on it - because that's
something you want to do on-the-go. So it needs to be optimized for these
simple tasks being executed in a moving environment - in contrast to current
smartphone interfaces, which are made for increasingly complex tasks.

Design

A watch is much more personal than a phone. It's a
fashion statement and you actually wear it on your arm for most of the day so
that people see it. It's much more intimate than a phone and shouldn't look
like a gadget, but like an actual wristwatch.
Attention to detail and premium materials are the
main characteristics for the watch. Screen is protected by a dome shaped crystal
sapphire which is known for its strong ability to endure scratches and provide
clear visibility.
The watch body is offered in three options: brushed
stainless steel, titanium and rose gold to match every taste and offer
sufficient protection for the watch. The ZAMMANN watch weights 86 grams (68
grams for the titanium model) which feels so light yet very solid.
We decided not to include a microphone or a speaker or any open ports so we can ensure the product is water-tight and robust for many years.
Dimensions and physical specifications:
- Case materials: Stainless Steel / Rose Gold / Titanium
- Watch lens: Crystal Sapphire Glass
- Watch case back: Screw down
User Interface & Convenience
The ZAMMANN smartwatch can be operated simply by; touching, pushing and shaking. The screen is touch capacitive so you can simply swipe through different menus and apps.
The smartwatch case design also incorporates 1 crown and 2 physical buttons that add to the aesthetics of a classical wristwatch. To adjust time, you simply pull the crown and rotate, just like a normal watch! The other 2 buttons can be easily customized to perform various functions like; timer, stopwatch, missed notifications, change watch face, alarm, turn volume up/down and many more!
With the built-in accelerometer and gyroscope you can simply shake your wrist to turn on the back-light when in dark situations.

Apps & Notifications
Notifications are an important
part of the smartwatch, because much too often, we pull our phones out only to
check the notification we just got.
When you get a new notification,
the smartwatch vibrates and the notification fills the screen for a few
seconds, allowing you to look at it and go back to what you were doing without
further interaction. Of course, you can also swipe them away to get rid of them
immediately or interact on them. Vibration pattern and intensity can be
customized and assigned to different types of notifications and alerts.
Additionally, if you decide that
a notification requires more complex interaction (like reading a long email),
you can just unlock your phone and it'll immediately open the notification's
app for you. Missed notifications are indicated by simple icons on the main
watch face.

Display
![]()
The ZAMMANN smartwatch incorporates the latest technology in Mirasol™IMOD display that offers vibrant colors and easily viewed in direct sunlight just like paper and E-Ink displays. The display is backlit for when there is no outside light source.
Interferometric Modulator Display (IMOD, trademarked Mirasol) is a technology used in electronic visual displays that can create various colors via interference of reflected light. The color is selected with an electrically switched light modulator comprising a microscopic cavity that is switched on and off using driver integrated circuits similar to those used to address liquid crystal displays (LCD). An IMOD-based reflective flat panel display includes hundreds of thousands of individual IMOD elements each a microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)-based device.
The display technology is the main reason behind the extended battery life of 1 week under regular use. Unlike conventional LCDs and AMOLEDs, the Mirasol™ display is always ON, yet consumes very little power and almost zero power when in idle.
The 40 mm diameter offers enough space for the smartwatch’s functions without feeling bulky or over-sized.
Battery
Thanks to the display technology,
the ZAMMANN smartwatch can achieve on a single charge 1 week of battery life
under daily regular use unlike existing smartwatches with LCD/AMOLED displays
that needs to be recharged daily.
The ZAMMANN smartwatch is charged
wirelessly via the provided leather watch box. Just plug-in a standard
micro-USB cable into the back of the box and simply drop the watch inside the
box to start charging. The smartwatch is also compatible with the Qi™ wireless
charging standard which can be charged via any standard Qi™ wireless charger.

Risks and challenges
Every technology project has
risks and challenges.
As we move towards production,
our main challenges are in final integration, wireless certifications, and
parts deliveries.
The ZAMMANN smartwatch is a
combination of electronics, software, and watch hardware. We are confident in
our design. To deliver a premium product, it is sometimes necessary to spend
extra time tuning circuit board designs, refining software, or adjusting
mechanical tolerances.
a) Component lead
times & availability
Lead times vary for
different components. Some take as long as three months just to deliver.
We will be splitting our component orders based on manufacturing times.
Therefore, as soon as we have a good idea of estimated orders, we will
immediately place orders for components that take longer to manufacture first.
This will decrease our time to receive the components from suppliers.
b) Shipping ZAMMANN smartwatch
worldwide
There are a number of
unforeseen circumstances that can cause problems during the actual physical
shipping of the ZAMMANN smartwatch. Therefore, we will be working directly with
world-class fulfillment companies that are extremely experienced in logistics.
This will ensure that we are able to get your smartwatch into your hands in the
least amount of time!
