Znanstveni piknik dobiva krov nad glavom!
Znanstveni piknik, najveći događaj popularizacije znanosti u Hrvatskoj i regiji, dobiva krov nad glavom - za tri mjeseca smjestit će se u Centar za popularizaciju znanosti, mjesto gdje će djeca i mladi imati priliku istraživati znanost kroz zabavu svakog dana u godini.

Nedostajat će samo jedno - veliko Newtonovo njihalo.
NJIHALO
Veliko Newtonovo njihalo jedno je od najprimamljivijih eksponenata za igru od prvog dana Znanstvenog piknika. Uglavnom poznato kao stolna igračka, Newtonovo njihalo doseglo je novu razinu zabavnog kada se na Znanstvenom pikniku pojavilo u većem obliku od uobičajenog - svi su ga htjeli isprobati, što je dovelo do pitanja "Čemu služi?" i učenja o osnovnim zakonima fizike.

Štoviše, nakon godine intenzivnog škljocanja loptica na Znanstvenom pikniku, njihalo se poprilično oštetilo te će posljednji puta biti korišteno na događaju u rujnu. Također, zbog nepristupačne cijene, njihalo koje smo do sada koristili na Pikniku redovito smo posuđivali. Sada kada se pripremamo za otvaranje znanstvenog edukativno-zabavnog centra, ovo znači upravo ono o čemu razmišljate - trebamo novo, naše njihalo!
Novo njihalo bit će još bolje od onoga koje smo koristili posljednjih godina. Osim što će biti veličine prostorije, čineći ga nemogućim za ne primijetiti i poželjeti istraživati, njegove kugle moći će se ispunjavati različitim materijalima, poput pijeska i vode. Njihalo će također biti sigurnosno prilagođeno za izložbe i demonstracije.

Što možemo naučiti uz Newtonovo njihalo?
Iako kreirano kao uredska igračka za relaksiranje, njihalo je nazvano prema znanstveniku i matematičaru Isaacu Newtonu. Uređaj demonstrira neke od osnovnih zakona fizike na jednostavan i zabavan način, što ga čini idealnom igračkom za interaktivno učenje o:
OČUVANJE ENERGIJE -> Podizanjem i puštanjem kugle na jednom kraju njihala kugla na suprotnom kraju će se, zahvaljujući očuvanju i izmjeni energije, pokrenuti na identičan način, potičući njihovo uzastopno kretanje.
OČUVANJE GIBANJA -> Nakon što podignemo i pustimo prvu kuglu, ona se neće samo odbiti od druge u nizu, već će se očuvanjem smjera gibanja kretati u jednom smjeru sve do posljednje lopte u nizu.
TRENJE -> Slijed uzastopnog kretanja kugli zaustavit će se zbog trenja u njihovoj unutrašnjosti, koje će pretvaranjem dovoljne količne energije dovesti do zaustavljanja.

Iako Newtonovo njihalo nije izumio Isaac Newton, ono uspješno prikazuje treći Newtonov zakon gibanja - za svaku akciju postoji jedna i suprotna reakcija. U prijevodu na našu situaciju, udruživanjem snaga zauzvrat ćemo prikupiti dovoljna sredstava za novo Newtonovo njihalo znanstvenog edukativno-zabavnog centra.

Science Picnic Is Getting Under a Roof!
Science Picnic, the biggest science-popularisation event in Croatia and the region is getting a roof over it's head - in three months from now it will grow into a Centre For Science Popularisation of Science, a place where children and youth will have a chance to explore science in fun ways throughout the whole year.
The new science edutainment centre will gather all the best from the Science Picnic's program:

Only one thing will be missing - a giant Newton's cradle.
THE GIANT
A giant Newton's cradle has been one of the most tempting exponents to play with from the Science Picnic's day one. Mainly known as a small office-desk toy, Newton's cradle launched to a new level of "entertaining" when it showed up at the Science Picnic in a much larger form - everybody wanted to try it, which naturally led to asking "What is this for?" and learning about the basic principles of physics.
In fact, after 4 intense years of ball-kicking at the Science Picnic, the cradle got quite damaged and will be used for the last time at this September's event. Also, because it's quite a pricy instrument, so far we've been using a borrowed cradle. Now, that we're preparing for the opening of the new science edutainment centre, this means exactly what you're thinking - we want a new one, our own Newton's cradle!
This one will be even better than the one we used throughout the last years. Besides being of a size of one large room, making it impossible not to explore how it functions, it's balls will be fillable with different substances, such as sand and water, making learning even more insightful. Moreover, this will be a safety-approved Newton's cradle, designed for exhibiting and demonstrations.
WAIT - What Can We Learn From It?
Despite the fact it was initially created as an office toy for relaxation and motivation, Newton's Cradle was named in honour of scientist and mathematician Isaac Newton. The device demonstrates some of the fundamental laws of physics in a simple and fun way, which makes it a great toy for interaction and learning:

CONSERVATION OF ENERGY -> If we hold up and release one of the balls, the ball on the opposite end will move at the same speed and height, due to energy exchange.

CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM -> The first ball doesn't just swing off the second one and bounce back due to conservation of momentum in the direction of motion, meaning it will move in one direction until it reaches the final ball.

FRICTION -> The sequence will continue back and forth until the balls eventually stop. This happens due to friction inside the balls, converting enough energy to stop them from moving
Principles behind Newton's Cradle can, for example, explain why does the ball bounce off the ground when we play basketball and handball!
For Every Action There Is An Equal and Opposite Reaction
Newton's Cradle wasn't really invented by Isaac Newton, but it successfully represents Newton's 3rd law of motion - for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. In translation to this specific situation, if we join our forces together, we'll have enough funds to get the new Newton's cradle for the science edutainment centre in return!

We believe that science is a perfect answer to children's natural curiosity and can spark an idea in their minds that they, too, can use science for finding answers to world's biggest question - that's why we started the Science Picnic, that has over 4 years gathered more than 100,000 visitors, mainly children and youth. We want to continue it's tradition at the science edutainment centre, the first of such kind in Croatia and the region.
You can show us your valuable support by any amount you wish - all will make us happy! If a monetary donation isn't an option for you, there are many equally important ways you can help us:
1. Next time you meet up with your friends over a coffee, tell them all about this. Make sure to send them a link to the campaign and make sure to do it right as you say it (just so you don't forget about it later).
2. Casually mention it to another parent at the parents meeting. Point out this is a cheaper way for them to get the entry tickets to the Science Picnic.
3. That day when you'll feel really unproductive at work, e-mail a link to the campaign to your favourite relative - you'll feel more productive.
