ZOOMPesa will be the MOST inexpensive mobile and online International Money transfer service that sends directly to a mobile wallet that shows its heart by GIVING BACK to our clients' local communities.

Hi. We're Anthony Maina and Jesse Gitonga, ZOOMPesa founders.

ZOOMPesa was born of our frustration when sending money home to our families Kenya.

Frustration because the wiring companies charged so much that there was less for our families and because it was so inconvenient for everybody.

So we put our heads together and figured out the kind of service we wanted.

An ultra-convenient service that allowed international money transfers using any kind of dumb or smart mobile phone or a computer online that was instantly credited to a mobile money account, AND
charge 20-50% less than other services depending on the amount of money sent AND
let that one low fee cover transfers to 2 or even 3 different people.

Then we started thinking about how Tom’s Shoes and Warby Parker give a pair of shoes or glasses for every one that’s bought and we wanted to do something like that, too.

Giving our service free didn’t make sense, but giving a percentage of each fee to a group, like a clinic or school, that’s local to the sender did make sense. And with your help that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

ZOOMPesa will make sending money home convenient and inexpensive and let us all GIVE BACK at the same time.

That’s why we call ZOOMPesa the money transfer service with a heart.

THE DETAILS

ZOOMPesa is THE safe, simple, secure, social way for people from Kenya and other countries to make International Money transfers using

SMS from any type of mobile phone or device; or
online payments

The recipient’s mobile account is instantly credited with the funds, while the sender’s bank account is debited.

The BIG ZOOMPesa DIFFERENCE: Other services charge as much as 10% depending on the amount sent. For the recipient, that can mean less money for buying food or seeing a doctor.

ZOOMPesa reduces fees 20-50% (depending on the amount sent).

The BIGGER ZOOMPesa DIFFERENCE: Existing services charge for each individual transfer.

ZOOMPesa charges a single low fee (depending on the total amount sent) for transfers to two or even three different people.

The BIGGEST ZOOMPesa DIFFERENCE: Expats send money home to improve their families’ lives. ZOOMPesa wants to improve lives, too.

ZOOMPesa is the only company that dedicates a percentage of every transfer fee to projects focused on social good, such as schools, clinics, etc., in the recipient’s local area. Our customer community will help us identify potential recipients.

ZOOMPesa is registered and regulated by the Financial Tracking and Analysis Center of Canada (FINTRAC). We have established a working relationship with the association that connects to the major banks in Canada, as well as the telecom networks in Africa, to allow for real-time disbursement of funds and settlement.

HOW THE FUNDING WILL BE USED

$75K will be used to

1. complete development and the full the patenting process on our unique SMS-based mobile technology that does not require a smartphone (ZOOMPesa currently holds a provisional patent);
2. complete required commercial relationships; and
3. launch the service in Canada.

Stretch goal 1: $110K

1. Roll the service out across the UK and EU

Stretch goal 2: $150K

1. Enter the US market (which entails higher costs and more legal hurdles)

Money raised above our second stretch goal will enable us to role our service out more quickly across Africa and other countries with large expat populations.

Our GIVE BACK starts when the campaign ends and you, our loyal supporters, vote on the distribution of 10% of the funds we raise (less the Indiegogo fee) across worthy NGOs and non-profit organizations in Kenya.
