<p>The IDEX Fellowship in Social Enterprise is a unique professional development program for recent graduates, interested in the field of social enterprise.</p> <p>We are a group of six IDEX Fellows in Bangalore working with Affordable Private Schools (APS), schools that serve the working families in Bangalore, on their business models and curriculum for the betterment of their students and to improve the schools&rsquo; viability in the competitive marketplace. APS offer low-cost alternatives to government run public schools, which often have teacher truancy or apathy and have higher student to teacher ratios. Additionally, the market-based approach of these schools increases the accountability of the school owner and its teachers, because parents can send their children somewhere else if their needs are not met. With competition, APS will strive for lower prices for their customers (the parents) while ensuring quality for the students.</p> <p>We have come from different backgrounds and have different passions and interests, but we share the common goal of improving the educational quality and efficiency of these institutions over the next year.</p>
