Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, Wendell Etherly began his filmmaking career at the age of fifteen. He continued making films as a teenager before attending Columbia College Chicago, where he majored in film. Etherly is the recipient of the 2008 Illinois Arts Fellowship Award for Outstanding Script Work; a recipient of the 2010 Illinois Arts Fellowship Award for Best Film Work; a 2008 Pulitzer Prize Candidate for Dramatic Works, and 2013 3Arts Award Nominee for Outstanding Chicago
