People are very mobile these days. We move around for work and study. This impermanence makes it difficult to create personal spaces when we don’t have permanent addresses. People need furniture that can adapt to a contemporary, mobile lifestyle. The movement of collapsible design has never been as relevant as it is now. Ikea with its concept of flatpack furniture can be described as the precursor of the movement in modern times. Objects need to be flexible, we should be able to store them without losing space. Furniture also needs to fit inside an elevator or in a car to make moving less of a headache.

Table legs have been overlooked for many years. These legs are the foundation of a table, without them, tables cannot exist. We want people to appreciate these legs and to give them a new perspective of this fundamental piece of design and show their hidden beauty through a new functionality.

 

This is us, the design team! We are Ta Yang Hsu and Francois Elphick. 

Born in Belgium, Ta Yang studied piano and architecture in Brussels. His work ranges from space design, museology, identity design, photography, and art direction. Francois was born and grew up in South Africa. After studying industrial design in Taiwan, he has worked in interior design, architecture and graphic design.

After meeting in Taiwan in 2001, Ta Yang and Francois have since then worked together on many design projects.
