Edit 5/16: It's the final countdown! Please check out my blog for an update on my expectations and budgeting information. Thanks to everyone who has helped out so far!
I'd like to donate my time to volunteering at an school in Battambang, Cambodia. They are in need of supplies, volunteers, and money. Help me help them by donating to my campaign! I have valuable skills in teaching and working with children, as well as travelling experience in Asia. You have money. I'd love nothing more than to give my time to a good cause!
I have structured the campaign needs around a budget. The organization I will be volunteering for is a nonprofit, but there are costs involved in getting me to Cambodia and staying there for as long as possible. I'd love to stay for a month or more. The cost of living in Cambodia is very cheap, but I won't have an income when I go overseas, and expenses still add up! Any extra money would go to the program itself.
You're welcome to check out the program website, which is separate from and has no part in this campaign, and to donate money on your own to the organization or to check out the testimonials and contact the people involved. The KNGO works with vulnerable children in order to give them the opportunity for a better life.
Here is a link to the program website.
In short: I raise money. I plan my itinerary based on my personal funds and your donations. I go to Cambodia and help children. I give the extra money to the KNGO.
Here is an itemized list of my projected expenses:
- $1800 for a round trip flight from home to Siem Reap, the nearest airport, in the autumn (with margins for airline fluctuations)
- $150 for baggage to Cambodia. I'll be bringing at least one old laptop computer with me to donate, and I'll have class supplies, teaching books, and small gifts, so this will not be a light trip.
- $50 for ground transportation from Siem Reap to Battambang
- $450 for a month's stay in a low tier guesthouse in Battambang
- $450 for transportation and living expenses in Battambang
- $250 for school supplies for my courses and individual student gifts
- $25 for 30-day travel visa
I will be blogging about my travels starting in the fall at this link, which has a couple of informational posts up for the time being.
