Right Folks, the Flags are here, and distribution to individual donors and group donors is underway. Please be patient while we get everything organised.
Some of you will undoubtedly get your flags quicker than others but be assured they are on their way.
Thanks again to everyone who made this possible.
Lets get Scotland Yessed!
All extra funds will be spent on Yes Scotland merchandise. Thanks for your patience. Please remember there will be opportunities to get these from Newsnet Scotland, Yes Scotland and numerous local Yes groups. Do not panic people.
A small team of
people have brought this project this far. We have designed, fronted
the manufacturers deposit, and already started production for 10 thousand of these Saltires,
7.5k with black Yes and 2.5k in the more subtle grey.
The split is broadly in line
with the limited but influential market research we undertook.
You can see the
two graphics here and we will have photos of physical examples of
these flags within a few days. They are 5'x3' (1.52x0.91m) polyester,
seemed and eyeletted flags, just as you'd find at any event, or
tartan shop in the country.
We can land these
flags in Scotland for a price of £9000,or 90p each!
They usually retail between £5-8.
This is a closely educated guess as my own business background partly involves
the importing of similar type goods from the far east. As such
all logistics are carried out by existing contacts and should be relatively straight forward.
Now think about
the visual impact of 10,000 Yes Saltires.
BIG Yes Saltires, visible
throughout the country, on flagpoles, in windows, being waved at
cultural and sporting events.
Every Saltire flying household in the
country can be approached and offered one of these to fly. Every
major event this summer can have a large Yes presence, even those of
you abroad can fly your Yes flags in support as the world starts to
realize what is happening here.
We anticipate
distributing to ALL the various Yes area groups and to activists nationwide, as
well as to specific Yes pressure groups such as RIC, LFI and Women for Indy.
We see this is an additional campaign resource.
We have agreements in place for these flags to be sold through the online shops of both Yes Scotland and Newsnet Scotland.
We believe this
to be a vital part of creating confidence among the quiet Yes vote
and building the atmosphere required for a MASS move towards Yes
before the referendum.
We cannot rely
on the billboard campaign alone, other businesses and organisations
require these facilities, and it is extremely expensive.
What we're
asking for.
We will offer a
free flag, colour of your choice, to everyone who donates £5 or more to the campaign
(the usual retail price). We can offer better deals to larger
contributors IF they can realistically distribute themselves.
We have already had one large contribution to assist in the transfer of the manufacturers deposit. We anticipate this will more or less balance the distribution costs we have once the flags are here, hence the appeal total staying at £9400.
We anticipate
a mix of free and charged for distribution to reach the maximum number
of people and still create extra revenue for local campaign groups as well.
The flags will
be available at the end of May, ideal timing for the summer ahead.
Our flexible funding choice, and completion date of 25th April is because we need funds at this date. If we have our target great, but even if we don't we will require what is available to pay and ship the flags. WE will then have one month to find additional funds to clear the goods here.
Our target is
an ambitious but very worthwhile £9400.
This covers the
Indiegogo expenses and distribution costs for delivering the flags to fundraisers and groups alike.
So please folks
if you believe, like we do that this can be the
'Summer of Yes' donate what you can and let's get this done!
Please share and retweet this campaign and help us really 'Yes' Scotland this summer!
(*Please note
it is totally feasible to replicate this move for small car flags. At this early stage if a backer was found they could be
shipped together. Costs would would be around two thirds of the
large flag price.)
My name is Mark Piggott, I have previously been involved in organizing 3 rallies in favour (forlorn hope) of BBC and wider media impartiality in the referendum debate. I am currently part of Yes Clydesdale.
My retail business experience has seen me involved with importing from Asia for almost 20years. In that time I've imported goods from Thailand, China, India and Indonesia.
