About the Founders
Michael Muyot was born and raised in the Hudson Valley. His father retired from IBM and Michael watched the aftermath of the IBM downsizing and offshoring to overseas workers. Because of this, he created a way to bring jobs back to the Hudson Valley and other communities like it, by introducing a theory of building and investing in local economies through online technologies. As president and co-founder of Local Analytics, he partnered with StateBook International to create a Community Building software. His love for the Hudson Valley and his passion for creating more jobs for his community, led to his co-creation of “12550 the Zine” to shine a light on the local artists and bring more creative people to the place he loves to call home: Newburgh.
Markus Hartel was born in a small industrial town in western Germany. His creative itch matched his love for mechanics when he started a typesetting apprenticeship. Times were changing and the new technology was killing the craft of printmaking, but Markus found a way to capitalize on this new wave of technology and opened his own print shop. Once he grew restless, he closed shop and moved to NYC where he became one of the better known modern Street Photographers. Eventually, the city was too chaotic for the life he wanted to pursue and he found Newburgh in an article while on vacation. One visit to Newburgh had him and the perfect letterpress had him hooked. He set up shop on Broadway and has loved Newburgh ever since.
