Short Summary
Every April, we hold a public gathering to help share and celebrate Native American culture. For 2014, we are trying something new to present an exciting opportunity for some hands-on involvement from YOU!
Our immediate goal is to create a dugout canoe, a traditional Native garden, and begin work on a future longhouse. The long-term goal is to use this as a start to create new exhibits as well as a living village to be used for many years to come. But we need your help!
What We Need
Every project takes time and money. While we are looking forward to the visitor participation, we still need help getting there. What are the funds going towards?
- Purchasing heirloom seed varieties of corn, squash, and other vegetables and herbs
- Soil to compensate for our sandy island soil in the garden area
- Materials for a raised bed
- Signage for identification to our visitors
- Water and fertilizer through the growth of the plants
- Any amount over our goal will go towards the multiple other projects we have planned such as the acquisition of a cedar log and paints for a mural on our fence
What You Get
Not only do you get to be a part of a fantastic project to further the education about Native American culture, we've also got some perks for you to show our gratitude! Here are just a few that we have:
- Hand-made dreamcatcher
- Classy mug with the museum logo
- Sample seed packet to try traditional plants on your own
- A beautiful print from a Native artist
- And much more!!!
The Beginning of a Dream
Our museum gets a wide variety of visitors every year. It is always such a joy to share our collection of indoor exhibits, but we want a way to enrich the outdoor experience as well. Not only will the garden and the canoe provide a learning experience for the visitors to the 2014 gathering in April; this will provide year round exhibits to share with ALL our visitors!
This will also be a stepping stone to enrich our future gatherings. Once the larger, more permanent projects, are complete, we will be able to use those as stations for hands-on demonstrations of a wide variety of take-home projects for all ages! You will be a part of a growing, living exhibit for generations to come!
