the film
20 Something is a student film about Rick, an emerging young adult, who conspires with his wild child sister to steal back his prized Beanie Baby collection after being kicked out of his apartment.
the impact
In addition to being a universal story about finding yourself and learning to live with your family in your 20s, 20 Something will feature two Native American leads in a non-stereotypical narrative.
our crew
Our crew is made up entirely of Montana State University film students. A few key roles include:
- James Takes Gun - our writer and director.
- Michael Allen - our director of photography/cinematographer.
- Morgan Legard - our producer.
In addition to this, we have sound designer Cassidy Powers, cameraman Daunte Valandra, gaffer Cole Maurer, and editing team John Holbrook and Andrew Messman.
our budget
Gear: $450
A wonderful benefit of being students is that we have access to a plethora of awesome gear through the School of Film & Photography Checkout. However, to achieve the look we want we have to buy a few pieces that aren't available; including an adapter so we can use the lenses we'd like with our camera.
Production Design: $375
This is all the props, costumes, and set dressing that we're going to need. We have a few specific things we're creating like the interior of a therapist's office and Rick's bedroom. But most importantly, we need A LOT of Beanie Babies.
Food: $525
As student filmmakers, often the biggest motivator is food. We want to keep our crew and actors as happy as possible, so that means feeding them. We'd also like to keep them as safe as possible, so our meals will be individually packaged to line up with Covid Safety Protocols.
Actor Pay: $250
Ideally, we'd like to reimburse our actors for their time. We're planning on paying our lead and supporting actors for their performances.
Wiggle Room: $150
Although we have a fairly thorough Excel spreadsheet, some breathing room is always nice. This part of the budget is likely to go towards any expenses that might pop up during filming like batteries and gaff tape.
Risks & Challenges
Not to sound like a broken record, but we've been living in uncertain times. Like most projects, we're working against Covid-19. Fortunately, this isn't our first rodeo as students during Covid, and we plan on using protocols such as masks and routine surface cleaning to help reduce the spread.
