History
Joseph Melvin Madeo was born February 2, 1985, in San Francisco, CA. He grew up in Sequim, WA. A gifted artist from a young age, Joe had his first art show in elementary school. After graduating from Sequim High School, he attended The Art Institute of Seattle with the help of several scholarships. He was awarded best portfolio of his graduating class.
Joe followed his heart & dreams and moved to New York where he went on to become a jack of all trades, finding success in fashion design, custom bike building, carpentry, and most notably fine art. A true optimist and visionary, Joe set his mind to something and did it. His positive attitude and mischievous demeanor remained even up to the very end of his life. Joe passed away March 20, 2014 after a 4 year battle with cancer. Joe made the most of his short time on earth. Those of us lucky enough to have know Joe will always remember him and his amazing talent.
In his memory, I am organizing (with the blessing of Joe's family and loved ones) a memorial scholarship campaign. The money raised will be used for the sole purpose of awarding scholarships to students from an arts school in Bronx, New York. I am the Principal there. If you would like to learn more about the school, please see www.ccbxhsm.org.
It is our hope that we will raise enough money so that the scholarship can live on indefinitely and become self supporting. Until then there will be an annual drive.
Depending on the amount raised, scholarships will be awarded in a range of $500 to $1,500. These will be awarded to candidates that meet the following criteria:
Enrolled in a 4 year college for the 2016-2017 school year
Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher
Have demonstrated financial need*
Complete an application and essay that describes the impact of the arts on their lives.
*Students who are within reach of college but are less than $5,000 away from enrollment are given preference

What We Need & What You Get
WE NEED YOUR MONEY TO KEEP THE ARTS ALIVE!
The Impact
Help a New York City art student attend college! Every year, my school has students who are less than $5,000 away from college. Yes, I've had students not go to college for as little as $1,500. Isn't it worth helping?
Risks & Challenges
The only risks and challenges are collecting enough money.
