The Women Composers Festival of Hartford has, for the last sixteen years, provided an educational and entertaining platform for the promotion of women composers. The festival's goals include fostering music by women composers through performances, outreach, and development. We seek your assistance in continuing this tradition with next year's festival, March 30 - April 2.
With four days of concerts and presentations hosted by venues across greater Hartford, the festival is featuring a variety of works by composer-in-residence Paula Matthusen, as well as works by local composers, including performances by guest artists like forty/sixty. Thanks to the success of last year's festival, we're able to expand this year, bringing three of the most highly skilled children's choirs from the area to perform new works together in our closing concert.
Your donation allows us to continue bringing well-crafted programs and excellent guests to the Greater Hartford area to enrich the cultural life of the city, and give the compositions performances of the caliber they deserve. We are a non-profit organization, so all donations are tax deductible.
Guest Artists, Services, and, inevitably, Basics
We're aiming to grow the festival this year, and that means hiring expert musicians and renting beautiful, resonant performance spaces in addition to printing programs, paying performance licenses, etc.
We receive in-kind support as well as individual donations and grants, but enhancing the festival with amazing guest performers like the forty/sixty, and that means expanding our support base to pay these artists their worth in time and effort. You are that base!
Continuing the Festival Mission
Our festival has immediate impact and long-term significance.
- We employ professional musicians in our area.
- We provide concerts and lectures to audiences from all over Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York.
- We put a spotlight on women composers, whose work has been in shadows for centuries.
We've been putting on this festival for sixteen years, and your donation allows the festival to keep celebrating the diversity of music by women composers, advocate for recent and historical repertoire, foster the development of new music, and support continued performance of works. With each festival, more music is presented to an ever growing audiences of enthusiasts and scholars. The festival has featured hundreds of performances in its thirteen years, including dozens of premieres, including works commissioned by us. Emerging composers whose works have been featured in the past continue to develop their careers with ongoing support and interest from festival audiences.
