Today’s word processors’ largely concern themselves with one function - formatting content. Whether it’s page breaks, margins, fonts or layouts for images and graphs, they are packed with a host of tools to help you decide how to style your content. But what about you, the writer? Are modern writing programs equipped to handle your unique work-flow, writing style, and ever-changing mood?
Trestle is a free upcoming writing app that allows you to craft your own writing space and work the way you want - like you would on a real desk.
The first thing when using Trestle will be the… whole lot of nothing. But don’t fret! You’ll soon realize that writing on Trestle is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. While strikingly empty in the beginning you can fill the layout with powerful tools we call widgets. These widgets offer distinctive features such as Time, Notes, or Tasks that sort of act like a separate app on their own. You can add, remove, resize, and reposition these widgets anywhere you see fit! Before you know it you’ll have your perfect workspace - whether that’s a word processing powerhouse or a zenlike minimalist writer. And to top it off, you can even customize the design of your new workspace with our lovely Themes.

Trestle will be a free to use app when launched. But wait! There are still incentives to be a backer and support the project right now! The Pro tier offers several benefits such as increased cloud storage, unlimited layout saves, and a customizable grid system. Look at the details below!
Sheets are customizable writing areas in Trestle. They can be resized and repositioned at will and you can even use several of them at the same time. Visually, Sheets incorporate inline toolbars instead of fixed toolbars to minimize graphic cluster and distractions. The design choice help writing on Trestle simple and distraction-free. In addition, we have support for the Markdown syntax and plan on incorporating LaTeX support.
Trestle implements features into containers called Widgets. Each Widget has a function such as time, notes, or tasks. This reduces unnecessary tools and the complexity of finding features while making tools you need much more accessible in the feature. Need to find a widget you need? Simply place it in your layout and you’re done! You can now reference it anytime you need with a simple glance. And don’t worry, you can easily remove, resize, and reposition them later.
With our handy Widgets and bare minimum structure, you can easily build layouts that suits your taste or particular task. Trestle’s grid layout will automatically organize your Widgets so that they do not overlap. Save layouts you use often so you can summon a workspace to handle that specific task.
Trestle has come a long way since it was just an idea. More specifically, we’ve been working on the technology of Trestle for a few months and have recently started working on the user experience. We currently have a prototype that contains the core functionalities. It is being developed actively but has quite a way to go.
We want to bring Trestle to you guys as soon as possible and want to make an official release in the next 6 months. The vast majority of the funds raised here will go towards feeding us with enough caffeine and sugar to help construct Trestle as soon as possible. As we’re working on the project with no other source of income, any help would be appreciated! Another big portion will go towards maintaining Trestle’s infrastructure (things like servers!). Help fund Trestle and we’ll promise to deliver a writing app you’ll fall in love with.

Andre Kim (Co-Founder/UI&UX Designer)
Born and raised in Sudan, Andre is the UX/UI designer of Ryestory. He likes to analyze how people act the way they do. Be wary.
Belita Cho (Programmer)
Belita is a front-end developer of Ryestory. While she doesn’t speak english at all she enjoys communicating in binary language. If you wanna be friends with her say "01101000 01101001" to her.
Based in South Korea, Ryestory is small, cozy team that has been working on small projects for the past 3 years. Our most recent project, Trestle, has been in development for the past 6 months with progress becoming faster every month. We’re a jolly group of university students that like creating fun software to use. Feel free to contact us!
If you want to help the project in a non-financial way, subscribe to us through our site and help us spread the word about our campaign! Feel free to share the project on your social sites like Facebook or Twitter!
