3 BULLETS is a short film written by John MJS McGuinness and directed by John Heimbuch.
Over the last three years, John Heimbuch has received critical acclaim
for his work with Walking Shadow Theatre Company as both writer and director.
Most recently The Transdimensional Couriers Union received
an Honorable Mention from T.C. Daily Planet, was cited as a Production
That Makes a Difference by the Pioneer Press and according to Metro
Magazine should be "on any short list for the best local show in the last five
years."
Competing in film competitions, John MJS McGuinness has won audience
favorite awards as part of the Minneapolis 48 Hour Film Project in 2008
and 2009 for Martin Perkinson: Thinker and Pink Slipped.
Why This Project? -- A Note from the Director
Last summer I closed my production of
The Transdimensional Couriers Union, and was considering its possible future life when I was approached by John McGuinness who saw the show and had a short screenplay he wanted me to direct
. "You need to do this," he said, pushing the script for
3 BULLETS into my hands.
It was a sharp little script, using the language of action movies to tell a story of personal responsibility in a dangerous situation. When two friends witness a violent crime they must make a decision: Do they stand up or stand by? What obligation do we have to each other when the odds are against us? 3 BULLETS is an experiment in storytelling, departing from the
traditional three act structure to suspend the audience in the middle of
one simple decision: risk everything or walk away.
As soon as I read it, I knew I had to direct it. John M agreed to serve as producer, and with the help and advice of the many talented filmmakers involved with this project, I was confident that I could do his script justice.
Open the Door
Our goal with 3 BULLETS is to create a short narrative film that can be screened in the Twin Cities, submitted to national and international festivals, and serve as a calling card for the work of the many talented artists involved. On a personal level, this film will be finest training ground I could hope for as a filmmaker - surrounded by a team of capable artists all working to tell this simple but honest story in the best way we can.
What We Need & What You Get
As a first-time filmmaker, I'm working hard to keep the production costs for 3 BULLETS very minimal. We're shooting on HD and many of the crew have donated their time. We're using free spaces and borrowed props. Still, it won't be doable without a budget.
We've already received generous support to
the tune of $1,500 for this movie and we're trying to raise another $1,500 to cover the remaining production costs. $3,000 is a shoestring budget for short film, but still very doable with this script. These funds are earmarked to cover our lighting gear rental, sound recording, a few specialized props, makeup kit, and to feed the many people who have donated their time to make this project happen. Any additional funds that we raise will help compensate our cast and crew for their time.
Thanks to IndieGoGo, you have the opportunity
to help get this film made. We offer fun rewards for
your contribution, but the biggest satisfaction is in helping Minnesota
filmmakers bring their vision to the screen.
