Why a Short Opera Showcase?
Here's a familiar scene...let's say you walk into a new brewery. Their tap wall is expansive. Dark, complex, light, refreshing. You choose a sampler to satisfy your curiosity -- and get turned on to something new.
FSOO is that sampler. One Ounce's curated program will introduce four new thoughtful short operatic works to you, our eclectic audience. Topics are varied, current, and inquisitive. We guarantee you'll experience something fresh and unexpected.
And you'll laugh. A lot.
It's no secret the popularity of classical arts is experiencing a modern renaissance. There is a need to foster creation of new opera and give young, up-and-coming composers and librettists an opportunity to have their works staged. By supporting and attending FSOO, you directly contribute to the advancement of opera's strong contemporary voice. It's like saying "Hey - opera's cool. I wanna make sure new stuff keeps coming, and show how much Austin supports local singers who bring it to life!"
Yeah!
How else can I contribute?
Thanks to our fiscal sponsor, if you would like to make a secure TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donation to One Ounce Opera in any amount (woo-hoo! you are awesome!), choose our project from the Austin Creative Alliance DONATE page. Every ounce counts!
Of course, with every Facebook share or forwarded link, the ability to make this showcase happen multiplies exponentially. Be our star. Spread the word!
And PS: we'll put your name on the screen! Every contribution gets some space, man. You put this show on the stage! You're awesome!
Who is One Ounce Opera?

The award-winning company has been featured on KVUE, KMFA, KUTX, KOOP, KVRX, in the Austin Chronicle, Austin-American Statesman, and TRIBEZA, and performed as part of EAST, Fusebox, SoundSpace at the Blanton, Beerthoven, HONKTX!, during SXSW, PRIDE Austin, and the Downtown Tree Lighting.
