Overview
Do you know that many inner city young women have never attended a play, a concert or dance performance in a theatre? Do you remember how wonderful it was your first time attending a live show? Well, I do and I would like to offer 50 young women and a guest to be my special guests at our show, "Just Like A Woman, A Celebration of Bay Area Women In Music.

Short Summary

My name Is Rhonda Benin, vocalist, songwriter, band leader, arts educator, public school employee and now producer.  I am a proud member of the Grammy nominated vocal ensemble, Linda Tillery and The Cultural Heritage Choir.  For 25 plus years I toured the world and recorded 7 CD's with the group.  At home in Oakland, I formed a band and in between tours, I played most major festivals and venues in The Bay Area.  I self produced a CD, "A Matter Of The Heart" in 2009,  In 2012 I took a 3 month stint at The Club in Hangzhou, China and 2014 I was headliner for The Kigali Up Festival in Kigali, Rwanda,  After coming home from Rwanda, with fewer tours I had the idea of producing a variety show to spotlight  women in music.  I started the show with a modest Indiegogo campaign.  5 years later.

I want every young girl to experience professional, accomplished female musicians, vocalists and a production crew as they work, so young women may gain a greater understanding of the music business as opposed to the image given to them per the media.

Your contribution will change the lives and decisions of young women in the audience. Those who weren't interested when their school offered free music or those who want to make a career on stage will be encouraged by what they see on stage.

What We Need

  • JLAW needs  $1250 to purchase 50 tickets for girls and their chaperones to attend "Just Like A Woman, a celebration of Bay Area In Women.
  • All funds will be spent on tickets and either BART, Bus tickets or fees for parking lot.

The Impact

  •   Each girl gets to experience a night at the theatre, seeing live music being performed by women of all ages, races and music genres. The experience is an invaluable lesson on what women can do, the part women play in the music industry and the power of song.
