The International Human Rights
Association of American Minorities (IHRAAM) is a Non-Governmental
Organization in Consultative Status with
the United Nations.
IHRAAM
has filed an historic Alternative Report
with the UN Human Rights Council, outlining the disproportionate cutbacks and problematic
policies that are sending Black education reeling throughout the
USA. The US is literally knocking the supports out from under African American K-12 schools and the 106 Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) that provide 40-60% of African American STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering and Medical) higher education. These schools are key to the economic sustainability and political vitality of African American heartland communities. These actions could condemn African Americans to form a permanent
underclass in the United States.
In May 2015, when the UN Human Rights Council undertakes its scheduled quadrenniel Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights in the United States, IHRAAM needs to be there to appeal to the UNHRC, other nations and NGOs to pressure the US to refund Black education, and ensure the equal-status economic
survival of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) throughout the USA.
To that end, IHRAAM seeks to send a diverse cadre of African American human rights attorneys and HBCU officials to the UN's
Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland and conduct a side-session event to lay bare the issues for all to see.
The IHRAAM team is working for free. But we need your help to raise $6.5K for airfare and accommodations.
