The Story
"A Day at the Movies" follows the lives of the employees at the Super 8 Cinema. Jeremy, a veteran of the establishment has lost his spark and is eager to make anew elsewhere. However, a special blockbuster premiere event is on the horizon and Bill, the troubled manager, understaffed and unprepared, struggles to keep Jeremy, his golden boy, around to help. With the cinema facing a buyout, this unique premiere could be the answer to their problems, but it's up to Jeremy to decide if he's in it for himself or to band together with his misfit co-workers in order to save the iconic landmark.
We’re making this movie to bring you back to the cinema. To bring you home. We want to shed light on that feeling that you once had, that spine-tingling thrill, when walking through the doors of a movie theater. Both in the familiar perspective of the cinema-goer and, to many, the unfamiliar viewpoint from the eyes of the true heroes behind your experience... the employees of the theater. The people who serve you food and refreshments while preparing to clean up the messy auditorium after the credits have rolled.
Feature-length Beginnings
For the past three years, we've been working within the independent film community throughout the Los Angeles area. From short skits to low-budget features, our team has been able to build up a great deal of experience both in front of and behind the camera. At that point, we knew we wanted to test our skills as storytellers by developing a full-length feature script that we have delightfully titled, "Opening Night."
Since its inception, we have spent night and day on the intricacies behind every line of action and dialogue in the pursuit to make this story and the characters within it something truly special for our audience.
Now, in an effort to bring that feature film to life, we want to showcase our capabilities in telling such a fully-fledged narrative within a more concise short film that visualizes our potential as filmmakers.
Like many before us, a short film that will eventually be extended into feature-length territory is a great route for us to take in getting our beloved story on the big screen. From Whiplash (2014) to Thunder Road (2018), industry heavyweights like Damien Chazelle and indie-darlings like Jim Cummings have further proven that such a pathway is possible for filmmakers who strive to break into feature films through the creation of a short concept.
A Little Bit About Us

Austin Rodgers & Cooper Tomlinson (co-writers/directors)
We certainly all come from different backgrounds with our own experiences. However, the thing that ultimately brings us together as young creatives is the movies. Our love and passion for filmmaking has molded us together in this thriving medium as a means to express ourselves as human beings.
Together, our projects have been able to slowly progress in a way where our audience is growing with each release. Alongside that, our films have since grown in concept with every new project. From no-budget YouTube skits to big-budget (well, big for us) productions, we have been able to cover a great deal of ground with our work that you can check out here:
"Meanwhile Outside the Bank" written/directed by Cooper Tomlinson & Curry Barker
Official trailer for short film, "Budz" written/directed by Austin Rodgers
Episode 7 of our comedy web-series, "Roommates" written/directed by Cooper Tomlinson
Like many of our previous films, our mission in telling this story is to highlight a day-in-the-life perspective that we haven't seen before. "A Day at the Movies" acts as an extension to that by shedding light on what it's like to work at a movie theater that is home to thousands of personal stories that shape our lives and personalities.

On the set of, "Meanwhile... Outside the Bank"
This very film is merely the beginning for our team. Simultaneously, we have many other projects that are in various stages of production that we are excited to share in the near future!
The Funding & Rewards
The funds that we gather from this campaign will go into multiple facets of our production. From locations to catering, we're wanting to make sure that this concept receives the justice that it calls for from the very pages of the script. Our team specializes in no-to-low-budget storytelling, and while this goal we're wanting to reach is breaking new ground for us as filmmakers, we are still working within the restrictions that many independents face while trying to get their stories on the big screen.
Now saying that, the funding from this campaign will simply assist us in making a better movie. We have made it our goal to move forth with this production no matter what. We believe we have what it takes to make big moves in the industry, and this short concept will showcase that we're capable of doing just that and this is your chance to be a part of that.

You're doing so much for us and we want to give you something back for your contributions to this wonderful story. At specific levels, you are capable of receiving actual screen-used props that are unique in their design. Risks & Challenges
On a film set, SAFETY is our top priority especially in times like these with COVID regulations. Our team is going to be working tirelessly to assure cast and crew stay healthy during production.
If we don't reach our goal, we will still move forward with production. We will find a way to cut costs to meet our budget restrictions while still keeping the vision intact because A Day at the Movies isn't just a movie, it's a world.
