Short Summary
A Fool's Paradise: 30 Shakespeare Scenes in 60 Minutes is
a Shakespearean journey for both the actor and the audience member.
In performance, audience members are given a list of 45 scenes that
the actors have prepared. The audience yells out the scene they want
to see and the actors run onstage to perform, and this is repeated
until either time runs out or 30 scenes are performed. It is
interactive and incredibly fast paced, making for an enjoyable
evening for the audience and an Olympic feat for actors.
If the actors do not perform 30 scenes in 60 minutes, one of them gets a pie in the face! How's that for some high stakes?
This project is a dream of mine, as the adapter, director and producer. I am also helping an ensemble of actors accomplish dream of theirs- to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
It is incredibly important to me as a Baltimore artist to make an impact on the Baltimore community right now. Our Baltimore actors deserve to be seen on a world-wide level.
The talent involved in this show is beyond what I could have wished for. Meet the cast on our website www.afoolsparadiseshow.com
What We Need & What You Get
Getting across the pond isn't cheap. We are working towards raising $16,000 to pay for all the necessary pieces of taking a show to the Fringe including flights for 6 people and lodging in Scotland (we're going Real World style and renting a house to all stay together). The money we raise through indiegogo will also help us pay for registration fees, flyer printing, props (and shipping), and a few other administration costs.
If this campaign raises $8,000, we can afford our travel.
If we raise $12,000 we will not only pay for flights but also for housing for all of the actors.
If we raise $14,000 we can afford shipping costs, printing flyers (which is very important for Edinburgh Fringe) to network with other artists, producers and bookers for other theaters. This could mean that this show has a life after the Fringe!
My goal is to raise enough to take care of the hard stuff like the travel expenses and to exceed our budget so that we can PAY THE ARTISTS. That is a dream for anyone who has ever worked as an artist.
Because our show is incredibly unique, so are our perks! Check them out in the sidebar.
The Impact
A Fool's Paradise is a show that makes Shakespeare exciting and digestible for people of all levels--from children to adults, from novices to scholars, anyone can understand and enjoy. Your contribution will continue to help us make a difference with our unique performance:
- We put Shakespeare scenes into a flexible means allowing the audience to pick and choose their favorite classic, or explore something they have never seen.
- Our first adaptation won the Audience Favorite Award in the Baltimore City Fringe Festival, performing to a full house every night.
- Internationally, we will continue to connect people to some of the most famous literature in history.
Risks & Challenges
We do not plan to have the entire cost of the production paid for by this campaign. We have other ways to raise money too.
We are relying on a few sources for funding. We have our hopes on getting a major grant. While the application was really well written, we won't know if we got it until after we've launched this campaign. Without grant funding, we will have to get a lot more support from this campaign. I cannot stress how important this campaign is to accomplishing our dream and moving forward with this amazing project.
Another way we plan to raise money is through a performance in Baltimore in June. We might also do some street busking, guest bartending, and asking local businesses to sponsor us. NOTHING will stop us from getting to Edinburgh.
