Overview
Jodie ran away from a loveless home two years ago, scraping by on her own in a dingy studio apartment. When she learns that her younger brother has been fighting people at school, Jodie must re-enter her past life to pull him from their mother’s oppressive grasp before his situation gets even worse. After wading through and re-igniting past conflicts with a new perspective - and putting her brother in even more danger - she must decide whether her brother is the one that needs saving after all.

Why This Matters

Harvey grew up in Leicester City, in the UK. His Good Home. But after returning to Leicester from the crazed fantasy of New York City, he was forced to re-evaluate his relationship to the world that made him who he is today.

Was this the same home that I left? Could this place really change?  - Like Harvey, these are the questions that the protagonist, Jodie, asks herself as she re-enters her past life to save her brother.

This film is Harvey's final project at New York University. It is the culmination of everything that he has learned over his years in New York, but more importantly, it is a personal story that Harvey has been desperate to make since he left home.

With your support, he can make this film to the best of its potential.

Visual Style

The heart of this film lies with its characters and the home that they live in. We hope to channel the naturalistic, grounded style often seen in British dramas that work best to convey the realistic, emotional relationships and conflicts between the members of the family.

Our Team!

Harvey Kingsley-Elton // Director

Harvey is a writer/director/cinematographer from Leicester in the UK. He is currently majoring in Film & Television at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, with a minor in Cinema Studies.

Harvey has made award-winning films (for Best Film and Best Director) on both sides of the pond, and has most recently been working on the US television show Younger; promotional videos for the Leicester City Council; and at Enter Edem, an international production company, making promotional material for the National Health Service of the UK.

Harvey has been itching to convey his complicated relationship to home since his first year in New York, and is excited for the chance to tell that story.

Peter Mancuso // Producer

Peter Mancuso is a senior majoring in Film & Television in NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, with minors in both Producing and Business of Entertainment, Media, and Technologies.

He spent last semester interning at RadicalMedia, a production company specializing in documentaries, music videos, and commercial production.

He has been working with Harvey since freshman year, having produced his Intermediate Narrative film, so he couldn’t be more excited to help bring Harvey’s next story to life.

Brandi Powell // Producer

Brandi Powell is a junior at NYU with a major in Dramatic Writing and minor in Producing.

Brandi is the current showrunner for Views from NYU, a late-night variety show featuring the best talent from her school. Over two-hundred people attended the live taping of the third episode. Brandi also produces work for Washington Square News, including working as a co-producer on the documents-series Vignettes. She is a member of the editorial team for the Fusion Film Festival and teaching assistant for Tisch’s Department of Dramatic Writing high school program.

She met Harvey while working on Views From NYU, where he served as the Director of Photography. Brandi can’t wait to help bring Harvey’s story to fruition.

Elizabeth Vrklan // Director of Photography

Elizabeth Vrklan is currently a junior at NYU Tisch. Having studied photography from a young age, she began working in the Camera and Electrical departments at fifteen where she developed an eye for lighting. From there, she spent two years working freelance in Southern California before transferring to Tisch.

During her time in New York, she has shot two intermediates and an Advanced Narrative, Kiss Me. Her work includes eighteen short films, four music videos, and one documentary short.

She has studied under the guidance of several awards winning cinematographers, most recently being shouted out by Reed Morano as a young DP to follow.

Sam Stuart // Assistant Director

Sam Stuart is a Chinese, Japanese, Scotch-Irish filmmaker pursuing their BFA in Film and Television with a minor in Business and Entertainment Management Technologies.

Sam loves working as an assistant director due to the nature of collaborating, organizing, and problem solving as much in advance, as well as on the spot. They have already served as the Assistant Director on two Advanced Narrative projects, and nine Intermediate films.

Kate Shaw // Casting Director

Kate is an actor, filmmaker and casting director, born and raised in the 6ix (Toronto) as a proud Canadian, currently planted in New York.  She is studying drama at NYU Tisch, both for theatre and film, with an emphasis on writing.

Currently she is interning at Telsey and Co, a prestigious casting office located in Times Square, and she has also worked at Global News as a technical intern. At NYU, she is head writing Views from NYU (a late night show completely run by students), and casting directing for Theatre in the Sound (radio plays completely run by students), as well as acting in many projects, student and professional.

She spends her days writing and creating as much as possible, while closely clutching her thermos of tea. She appreciates and creates everything from zany science fiction to every form of comedy.

With Your Help...

New York University has partially funded this project, and provides us with industry-standard equipment and resources, and Harvey has already amassed a large team of dedicated and passionate crew members, BUT a production of this scale cannot happen without a massive amount of support.

We still need to raise money to provide:

  • Locations - we need to rent a house to shoot in!
  • Props and Costumes!
  • Daily Meals and Snacks for an amazing crew of over 20 people!
  • Transportation for the Cast, Crew and Equipment!
  • Festival Submissions! - We plan to submit to 'big-name' film festivals across the UK and US!
