SYNOPSIS

When a priest witnesses his seminary students in the midst of committing a crime, he is pushed to relive the accident that tarnished his moral code. A film about youthful idealism, collective guilt and the act of watching.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

“A Man I Know” was born out of a desire to bring a new, heavier perspective to the classic Coming of Age narrative. It is the youthful unpredictability that is at the core of the tragedy that befalls our characters and changes the course of their life. For me, it was important that Noa’s story had this force driving the story forward, and not the mere want to deceive. 

My intention with this story is to capture the happenstance of life. I also hope this film will articulate provocative questions on the responsibilities we have as witnesses and essentially, as film viewers. 

I’m grateful to have gathered an ambitious crew with a strong shared vision, that will certainly turn this project into a powerful cinematic experience!

WHY DO WE NEED THE FUNDS?

To make the best possible film, we need contributions.

Here's how the money will be used:

• LOCATIONS - location fees & permits 

We are currently scouting locations and have found potential options. As the script requires specific features such as a woodland area with a body of water and a remote church, the main part of our budget will be directed towards this.

• TRAVEL COSTS & CATERING

Since our potential locations are located on the outskirts of London or just outside of it, we need to cover the travel expenses of the crew and the 8 members of the cast, as well as the van transporting the equipment for us to the different locations. Full bellies mean happy people! 

• CAST & PRODUCTION DESIGN

With 5 main characters and 3 extras, a good amount of the budget will be used to make our Cast as dashing as possible! 

• FESTIVAL SUBMISSIONS

We have what we need to make a festival-worthy film - passion, talented team and a whole lot of coffee!

MEET THE TEAM!

    Noa Szatmári (Writer)

Hi, my name is Noa Szatmári; I am a second-year film student from Hungary and the writer of the ‘A Man I Know’. I have been writing since I was 7 years old, and the construction of stories and characters has been a huge part of my life since. I am excited to bring this coming of age story to life that deals with the inescapability of guilt with fantastic and talented people.

   Ana Ungureanu (Producer)

I’m Ana, producer for ‘A Man I Know’. I am extremely excited to be working with this talented team to support them in making the best film possible! Currently studying at the University of Westminster, I have previous producing and directing experience which I can bring to this project. I’m very interested in films with strong messages that explore the human psyche which is what drew me into this film.

     Anca Radu (Director)

Hi, my name is Anca and I am the Director! I am immediately drawn to stories full of heart and playful wit. With a strong interest in cinematography, I intend to tell the story of “A Man I Know” through well-thought-out visuals, that will hopefully encapsulate the viewer in this meditative, almost tactile universe.

  Lucía Lara Hernández (1st Assistant Director)

Hey, I’m Lucía, a 1st Assistant Director from Monterrey, Mexico. I fell in love with films when I was a kid and I always knew I wanted to impart in my audience the same comfort that I’ve always found in the cinema. I’ve had previous experience as 1st AD in multiple short films and music videos and I’m very very excited to be working on “A Man I Know”!

  Rishika Singh (Project Manager)

Hello! I’m Rishika Singh, Project Manager for ‘A Man I Know’ (working title)! I’m in the second year of my film course and extremely excited to work alongside a fantastic crew of award-winning filmmakers. I have some experience 1st ADing previous projects which I decided to bring to this role. I hope to produce and directing my own films in the future! This is a very special story and I look forward to helping bring it to life on-screen!

Hi, I’m Kristof, a London based aspiring cinematographer from Hungary.  I’ve been working for my passion in the competitive industry of filmmaking since my secondary school years. Since then, I’ve worked on a variety of exciting projects, travelled the world. I’m always looking for the next adventures and new challenges.​

Hi, my name is Bella and I’m the focus puller for ‘A Man I Know’.  I am a camera trainee based in Northwest London with a passion for meaningful storytelling that others can connect to.

   Michael Doran (Gaffer)

Hey! I’m Michael, a trainee Gaffer and aspiring Director of Photography! I’m really excited to work on A Man I Know. I love telling stories using visual language and this is going to be so important for this film.  I can’t wait to get to work with our amazing crew and make this a reality!

  Mara Cracaleanu (Production Designer)

Mara Cracaleanu is a Romanian-born filmmaker and actress. She performed at the Romanian National Opera choir for 7 years, played in a feature film and in various stage plays where she won two acting awards. She has won over 30 international awards with her films and has previous experience in working on independent short films, screenplays and theatre play. She holds a diploma in Fashion Design and has won several awards with her paintings.

I am excited to work on this as a Production Designer, and hope that my attention to detail, my artistic background and creative ideas will bring out the best in this project.

   Alice Sacco (Editor)

Hey! My name is Alice and I will be editing ‘A Man I Know’. Growing up with a parent working in advertising, I have always been attracted to stories with little dialogue and where emotions can be conveyed in one gesture. This minimalism is what attracted me to Noa’s script where contemplation, as well as inner conflict, will be two emotions I want to give rhythm to throughout the edit!

      Eloise Vickers (Sound Mixer)

Hi there, I’m Eloise a 2nd-year film student with a passion for sound design. With such beautiful and challenging locations I’m so excited by the sonic potential of ‘A Man I Know’ and can’t wait to start filming!
