Short Summary

  • Sharon Lee is both the Director and Writer of this film and is a Cal State Long Beach graduate class of December 2021. Her degree focuses on both Screenwriting and Production Management. This short film will mark her directorial debut. This film focuses on her personal struggles of social anxiety that she had dealt with in her youth, especially in her teenage years, as a shy, soft-spoken, and socially codependent individual herself. In addition, it addresses the evolution of growth out of her comfort zone that she has come to experience in her adulthood through the multiple new challenges that approach her, such as with her role as director for the production of this film.
  • Madi Morgan and Andrew J Rice are the CO-Producers on this project. This rockstar producing team has already produced one other student film currently in post-production: Burning Sage. They are also currently producing another student film in pre-production: Insecurities, which will be filming in February. Madi Morgan is a Senior at Cal State Long Beach in her final semester focusing on Production Management and Screenwriting. Andrew J Rice is also in his final semester at Cal State Long Beach and is focusing on Screenwriting. Together they are an unstoppable duo who will make sure no matter what this short film is made.
  • A Night Out focuses on Vera, a shy, anxious, fearfully codependent, and a socially inept 20-year-old woman, who reluctantly agrees to go out to dinner with her outgoing and risk-taking 21-year-old roommate/best friend, Eve, at a local diner. However, when Eve tricks her by abandoning her alone without any money to pay for their meals at the diner, Vera must step out of her comfort zone and make a difficult decision on whether to dine-and-dash or get caught and confess to having no money at all to pay for their meals. All the while, she deals with the struggles of social anxiety through her interactions, and Eve’s remote method of peer pressure.
  • Our whole crew—from our producers to our DP to our set designers—has been working hard since November 2021 to bring this film to life. However, we cannot bring this film to life in its entirety without your support and donations, so please help us make our vision for the film come true if you can. You will be rewarded with perks, such as a shout-out on our Instagram or a piece of digitally signed artwork, drawn by Sharon herself, that relates to the film. We greatly appreciate the support from everyone! Thank you!

The Impact

Your contribution will make a massive difference in the creation of our film, no matter how big or small all amounts are appreciated:

  • Director Statement: This film is important to me because I am someone who grew up with a lot of social anxiety in public settings, to the point where it petrified me, but since then I have gotten out of my comfort zone and learned to challenge myself with risks in a good way, including with this film.
  • Producing team: Madi Morgan and Andrew J Rice, are a couple of rockstars. They are currently in the post-production stage of another short film Burning Sage and are working on the preproduction of a third film Insecurities.

Risks & Challenges

  • Making a short film comes with a variety of risks and challenges especially in the age of covid. Some of these include if someone tests positive during the production, not raising enough funds, conflicting schedules, or finding enough crew members.
  • We have a plan for each of these challenges so no matter what we will complete the film.
    • COVID: We have a covid plan in place that requires everyone on set to be vaccinated, have a negative covid test within the last 72 hours, and everyone is required to wear masks. We also will have a COVID COMPLIANCE OFFICER to ensure everyone is following covid protocols
    • FUNDS: We have alternative plans if we do not raise enough funds on IndieGoGo. This includes having bake sales or car washes. We also have areas in our budget that we can cut back on in case we do not meet our goal.
    • SCHEDULES: We will be contacting our actors well in advance and establishing alternates in the event that something happens before the dates of production.
    • CREW MEMBERS: We already have our crew members picked for the production and people to fill in for positions in case of emergency.
